??First registered on 21/ 02/ 1985 and owned by me since 23/ 08/ 2021, this is one of the best maintained classic Porsche 944 examples currently available. The car will also be provided with two keys and an original Porsche leather key pouch.
Paintwork, exterior and overall condition
The car left the factory with the following exterior features installed:?- Fuchs light forged alloy 7J x 15 road wheels with 185/ 70 VR 15 tyres?- Additional driving lamps mounted in the front bumper?- High intensity rear fog lamps?- Headlamp washers?- Heated rear window?- Rear window wiper?- Electrically operated door windows?- Tinted, heat insulating glass?- Heated and electrically adjustable driver's door mirror?- Body side protection mouldings?- Lockable fuel filler cap?- Electrically operated rear hatch release??The paint is still vibrant and when polished looks very close to factory condition. The car has been kept under a fabric-lined tailored Porsche 944 cover when not in use to protect the paintwork.??There are usual paint chips around the front of the car, typical for a 38 year old vehicle. They are visible on close inspection, but can be easily addressed if required. I inherited a small mark on the removable roof section and a small mark on the side of the front bumper. The key lock for the rear hatch has a crack in the plastic surround.?? All seals around windows are in great condition and show no sign of fatigue or mould. I also replaced all window wiper blades (Bosch) in 2021 and early 2022.??The original Fuchs alloy wheels are in great condition, with the protective coating ensuring the originally wheel alloy has been maintained.
Interior condition and accessories
The interior is in fantastic condition, and has clearly been very well maintained by the three previous owners since 1985. The seats are in excellent condition.??
The door sills, floor carpets, boot carpet, headliner, head rests and rear seats are in excellent condition. I purchased colour-matched interior mats for the driver, passenger and rear footwells that have protected the original carpet (will be included with sale).
??The dashboard has a hairline crack due to heat over the years (see image), and the gear knob has a small section of leather missing (the stick leather cover has no damage).
??All interior lights and electrics work as should, including the electric windows, roof, heater and dashboard lighting (light level can be adjustable via a dial next to the steering wheel).
??The two included boot leather covers are in excellent condition. One is retractable and the other is free fitting.??
The original tool kit from 1985 is also included under the boot lining.??The car was delivered with the following interior factory options on purchase:?
- Front and rear anti-roll bars?
- Brake pad wear indicator
?- 2-speed windscreen wipers, intermittent wipe setting with heated, electrically operated windscreen washers
?- Leather covered sports steering wheel (363mm diameter)
?- Fuel economy gauge
?- National Panasonic digital self-seek stereo radio with combined auto-reverse stereo cassette player
?- Rear compartment luggage cover (x 2)
?- Removable sunroof panel with electrical tilt facility?
- Leatherette sports seats with 'Porsche' cloth seat inlays - pair
?- Cassette and coin holderThe car has had four owners since 21/ 02/ 1985 (including myself). The car was originally sold by Porsche dealer Malaya Garage and bought by me from Desmond J. Smail Classic Car specialists in August 2021, and has been maintained by Porsche specialists Export 56 (Cranfield), with a full service being completed on 04/ 07/ 2022.??
Documentation comes with a complete service history, dating back from its first service on 18/ 04/ 1985 at Malaya Garage (1, 390 miles), with 50 subsequent MOT/ Service instances documented in the accompanying folder. The folder also contains the original brochure from 1985, multiple original MOT certificates and service receipts, with the most recent being the installation of a brand new OEM radiator from Porsche Solihull complete with new conduits, carried out by Souls Garages (Olney) on 15/ 09/ 2022. The latest MOT certificate is also included.
Mechanics and previous work
5 speed manual transmission, 2. 5L, 4 cylinder, Bosch L-Jetronic DME fuel injection, computerised ignition, 163bhp 2+2 coupe.??
There are no mechanical issues with the vehicle, including all electronics, power assisted steering, and electronic indicator lights. The car was inspected thoroughly on purchase by the workshop when originally purchased from Desmond J. Smail Classic Car specialists in August 2021 and has been maintained by Porsche specialists Export 56 (Cranfield), with a full service being completed on 04/ 07/ 2022. A new OEM radiator (purchased from Porsche Solihull) was installed along with new conduits by Souls Garages (Olney) on 15/ 09/ 2022.??
Two minor non-mechanical issues with the car are:
?- The boot catch is slightly stiff and opens by hand once the electronic catch button has been pressed
?- The retractable radio aerial fully extends but only retracts 90 percent of the way.
I had this fixed by Export 56 (Cranfield) once I purchased the car, however this has started to become stiff again. It doesn't affect the performance of the original cassette radio.
