I have for sale me 1965 Chevy El Camino. This car was once owned by the recently passed rock guitarist Jeff Beck. I've owned the car since 2006 and it has changed a little during that time. When I bought the car it had a 350 small block and 2spd Powerglide trans. It now has a supercharged 383 and race prepped TH350. The engine was assembled around 7yrs ago and started out as a virgin 010 4 bolt block which was then bored . 030" and clearanced for the 3. 73" Eagle stroker crank. New cam bearings were also installed at this time. The rods are also from Eagle and the pistons are Mahle forged with a 26cc dish. Cam is a Summut flat tappet with 234/ 234 duration @. 050" lift with . 480" lift and 113° LSA. Heads are Brodix IK200 and have 2. 02/ 1. 60 valves, aluminium full roller rockers and original M/ T cast aluminium valve covers. The supercharger is a Weiand 177 and the carb is a boost referenced AED 1000cfm unit with a hand spun aluminium velocity stack on top. Ignition it takes care if by a billet distributor and a MSD 6BTM control box. Headers are original Mr Gasket Team G. It has a high torque mini starter, aluminium high flow water pump and a new 110A alternator. Cooling is handled by a Be Cool retro fit aluminium radiator with a bespoke shroud and 18" electric fan, which is controlled by a adjustable solid state thermostatic switch. The trans is a race prepped TH350 which was behind a 700hp race engine before it ended up in my car. It has a full manual forward pattern valve body, 2600rpm converter with anti balloon plates and a large independent trans cooler. A new propshaft with 1350 uj's and slip yolk was made when the new rear axle was installed. The axle is a Quick Performance bolt in Ford 9" unit which is rated at 2000hp. It has a new centre section with fill and drain llugs and a jack pad, new filly welded thick wall tubes, fully back braced, big Ford Torino bearings 35 spline shafts, TrueTrac posi, 3. 50:1 gears, billet pinion support and 1350 pinion yolk. Wheels and tyres are American Racing VN309 TTO and are 15x5 in the front and 15x8. 5 in the rear. Tyres are 165 80 15 and 295 65 15 drag radials respectively. It has 4 wheel disc brakes with a new Right Stuff drilled and vented kit fitted on the front about 3yrs ago with a new servo and master cylinder and 2" drop spindles.
The chassis is in good order and not rusted out.
The body is now in candy gold with a candy red roof and the rear arched have been radiused by a previous owner which allows the fitment of larger wheels and tyres. The bodywork, although solid, has some minor issues, including a small bit of collision damage to the drivers front corner. The paint has also cracked in several places and there are a couple of small areas of rust coming through and has has some rust repair in the past. It has a glassfibre bonnet which has been cut to make way for the supercharger assembly. I also fitted a one piece window kit in the doors as the vent windows were rotten and new replacements weren't available at the time.
The interior is basic, but functional. There is no carpet or door cards, but I have some hand bead rolled aluminium door panels available separately should a prospective buyer want them. If gas what I believe to be the original bench seat, although this has been recovered in the past. It has a original 1960's Suerior "The 500" red metalflake steering wheel, gears are shited by a B&M Magnum shifter and it has the original dash. The speedo is a new unit I replaced a fea years ago but isn't currently working due to what I believe to be a minor issue with the gears in the tailshaft housing on the transmission. The fuel gauge works and there is a compliment of suplimentary gauges to keep a eye on the vitals, like engine temp, oil pressure, boost/ vacuum and air/ fuel ratio. The lights work, as do the single speed wipers. There is no heater. This was deleted by a previous owner when they "smoothed" the firewall. The controls are there, as is the heater matrix and motor, from what can see, but there is no plumbing through the firewall for it, although I'm sure it could be reinstated should the new owner want to.
There are also some other parts which are available separately, like the aforementioned door panels. There is a original Stockland glassfibre bed cap which has just undergone a £1500 restoration. These are very rare, especially here in the UK. I also have some extra new pulleys for the supercharger to spin it a bit faster for more boost, snd a couple of other bits if a prospective buyer wants them.
I've tried to include as much as I can, although I'm sure I've forgotten something, so forgive me if I have. This is a cool car with a interesting history that has spent most of its life here in the UK. Its not perfect, after all, it's almost 60 years old, but it is fun and puts a smile on my face and the faces of passers by. It drives well and gas good road manners. The only reason I'm selling it is because I've bout another car. Thank you
