Description
Built mid-December 1960, this started life as an 848cc Morris Mini De Luxe. This is a car with the factory foam filled sills which explains the surprisingly original state of the floors etc. In the early 1980’s it somehow became an Austin during the conversion to the computerised registration system but it still retains its original Morris bodyshell with the body number and FE number present confirming the December 1960 build date.
By 1982 it had been upgraded to a 1275cc engine from an ADO16 with 4 synchro Mini remote change gearbox with 3. 44:1 final drive; the colour had changed to the silver/ grey it is now. Other upgrades include Cooper S brakes and appropriate master cylinder, Mk 3 Cooper S twin HS2 carburettors, Cooper style exhaust manifold, original LP883 4½” S rims with Goodyear G800 Rally Special tyres, key start ignition, right hand petrol tank, bootboard brackets, Mk 2 rear lights and fresh air heater. The seats are from a mid to late 1970’s Mini Clubman I think.
At the last MOT in April 1988 it had 48607 miles recorded. It was taken off the road later that year – last tax disc expired 31st October 1988; the mileage showing now is 51800+.
It runs and drives and pretty much everything seems to work but it is being sold as a project and you could drive it away. Apart from the front panel and doors I think the bodywork is all original; the front floors need replacing as does the left hand A panel and rear of the left front wheelarch and the rear valance; the passenger door is very ropey and the drivers little better also the paintwork is very flat. That said it hasn’t been bodged so no need to undo previous poor welding.
The registration number is the original and transferable. There are copies of V5’s back to the 1980’s together with the last MOT and tax disc. Surviving modified Mini’s of this era are now very few and far between as most of those that do turn up are usually fairly standard examples. With this one you needn’t be too prissy if you want to do your own thing with it.
