Description
1954 Volkswagen Beetle, early Oval, Right Hand Drive, UK supplied car from new.
Rare opportunity to own an unrestored 1954 UK Oval Beetle. It has had 4 previous careful owners, and has covered 82, 000 miles from new. Matching numbers. Supplied new by "Modern Light Cars" in Southampton in May 1954.
It has always been garaged and consequently is in remarkable condition for its age. All the panels are original, and there is no corrosion anywhere, (take a look at the photo under the wheel arch showing original factory welds). Chassis is immaculate, engine spotless, and interior is incredible with all original seats, door panels, carpets, headlining, and even the rubber mats are mint with the correct press stud buttons to secure to floor pan.
The bodywork is superb, but it has had some paint over the years. All 4 wings have been painted at some point, as has the bonnet and one door below the door trim line. The rest of the paint is original.
Extras include Hazet Spare Wheel Toolkit, original Robri gravel guards, door handle finger plates, Venetian blind to oval rear window, chrome trim to dash fresh air vents, storage net below headlining, Hella reverse light converted to brake light, and LED brake light strip in rear window.
Recent maintenance has included full brake system overhaul, including ATE brake master cylinder, new brake lines, new wheel cylinders, new shoes on front, new wheel bearings, all suspension parts checked over and full lubrication. Full engine service, including new HT leads, spark plugs, new fan belt, oil change, oil change to air filter, points re gapped, timing and valve clearance. Gearbox oil level checked, brakes bled. Semaphores has flashing LED bulbs fitted (big safety improvement), clutch adjusted, hand brake adjusted, replaced front headlamp bulbs with LEDs.
MTR 900 was a well known car back in the early 90s, as not only was it featured in several VW books and magazines (including the October 1992 edition of Volksworld) but it was also the Athena shops poster car, sporting whitewall tyres back then.
I would like the car to go to a genuine VW fan who will appreciate the guardianship of this special car.
Serious enquiries only please, and I will not entertain lowball offers. If you know your early ovals, you will know this is a collector quality example.
