Descrizione
1951 BSA Gold Star ZB32.
I bought this bike a few years ago as an unregistered and 80% finished machine. I was going to use it as a donor for my ZB34 project but when I got it home and cleaned it up it was too good for that. Engine and frame numbers do not match but both are from 1951 - please see the photos.
In my ownership (nearly six years) I've made the bike complete and rideable and have used it on a few local rides, probably covering around 500 miles on it.
Work I have done on the bike is as follows:
New tyres and tubes front and rear
New fork stanchions, bushes, springs, seals and stainless seal holders
Rev counter and associated bracketry bought and fitted
Stainless handlebar in correct pattern fitted
Correct front mudguard brackets (UK made from George Prew) and stainless mudguard blade fitted
Magneto swapped out for one with strong sparks
Tank sealed with ethanol proof sealant
New front wheel axle and stainless brake torque arm fitted
Finned magnetic sump plate fitted
Brie-tie anti wet-sumping valve fitted
Baffle welded on to exhaust down pipe (it now sounds just a bit fruity rather than downright antisocial and performance is unaffected)
Jobs that need doing are:
Sort out some oil leaks that have developed as the bike has been used (as far as I know, timing cover, sump plate and primary cover)
The dynamo is not giving out any current so will possibly need a new armature fitted or it might just be the contacts corroded.
Charging circuit and lighting wiring is present on the bike but it needs sorting out properly. In my ownership I've just used the bike in daylight and been happy with that
Although in the pictures you can see the rev counter dive and cable I have removed these as the drive was not fitting nicely concentric to the drive pinion. I turned up a blanking plate and have run the bike with the rev counter as decoration only. To be honest it's not really needed as it's a very tractable bike. Of course the drive and cable will come with the bike.
The bike rides nicely and seems quite genuine with very few pattern parts fitted. I actually like it a lot, it's a great back roads bike, nippy enough and easy to live with but I've got too many projects on and not enough time so am trying to rationalise a bit...
Any questions, just ask. The bike is located in Dorset
