1964 Series 2A Land Rover - Petrol
I purchased this vehicle in Dec 2019 from a specialist Series Land Rover dealer. Having made a number of improvements to help improve usability and reliability I unfortunately now have to sell due to a change in personal circumstances.
The vehicle has a Galvanised Chassis and a 2 1/ 4 Ltr petrol engine which runs on unleaded petrol. The Vehicle is registered (V5) as a Historic Vehicle and is Road Tax and MOT exempt, this also makes it ULEZ / Emission Zone exempt.
In my ownership I have fitted a Roamerdrive overdrive unit, electronic ignition, High Torque Starter Motor, and had the Carburettor rebuilt.
The Gearbox has also been rebuilt (Aug 2022).
The Body Work is spray painted and in a very good overall condition without damage, dents and scratches. There is an exterior Spare Wheel Carrier and the Canvas Hood is in excellent condition.
The interior retains a nice level of originality and is in keeping with the rest of the vehicle. The front seats are the more padded type and are not torn or split, there are two bench seats in the back. The only additions to the dashboard / instrument panel are a windscreen wash button and a switch.
There is a seat belt bar and seat belts for the front two seats.
Defender Mirrors have been fitted (by a previous owner ) using Series 3 Door hinges. This may not be for the purist but does give better visibility to the rear. (Potentially safer given modern traffic conditions).
This is not a concours Land Rover but is at a very good standard. It has clearly been rebuilt (including the fitting of the Galvanised Chassis) by a previous owner. I can also tell from the engine details that it has been changed so am not able to guarantee the milage. I would assume the engine change was carried out at the time of the rebuild.
I do not have any of the details or history of the rebuild, or clarity of when it was carried out, but from the standard of the vehicle it does not appear to have been carried out in the distant past. I purchased the Land Rover just prior to the Covid 19 outbreak so for the first year of my ownership it was only used for shopping trips. Since then I have used it much more regularly. It always attracts plenty of attention and positive comments. It's a good example of a Series 2A Land Rover. On the road it does come with all the delights of a 59 year old Land Rover. A Gearbox with no synchromesh on first or second gear, drum breaks not to mention acceleration and a top speed that require patience. It also has all the great things that come with one of the the most iconic Land Rover models.
