Description

Here we have Mildred, a 1995 Ford Mondeo GLX MK1 1. 8 with the reliable and smooth RKA Zetec engine. We got her at the end of last year from a lovely enthusiast couple.
Mildred has been a great car to us, covering over 4000 miles in our time with her since the end of last year. Mileage currently sits at 83, 341 miles. She has been very reliable, and very comfortable throughout that time. She’s definitely a car that could take you 500 miles and you wouldn’t even notice by the end of it. She gathers pace effortlessly and has even returned 45MPG on a big trip!
We’ve done a few things since we took her on. We did the engine oil and filter, gearbox oil, new tyres all around not long after she came home to us, new coolant, brake fluid, PAS fluid. Fitted twin tone horns to replace the single tone ones. (The horn circuit was relayed as standard so was very straightforward) We also fitted a new washer pump and unblocked the jets.
The car has been kept away from E10 fuel as well by us and the previous owners.
She’s not perfect, she has some scuffs as she used to be owned by an older gentleman at one point who had to give up driving due to having a few bumps and scrapes. As such, the front bumper has a crack in it, which we did our best to sort and make less obvious, but then it was backed into at one point recently which brought it back out again.
MOT until November 2023. One of the biggest advisories last time was the rear subframe being corroded. If you look underneath, it’s just surface that needs cleaning up. Tyres have been solved already and I don’t see an oil leak now either.
Sometimes (albeit usually rare and after sitting for a while) she can be a little hesitant to start for the first time. Suspect that the PCV valve needs a clean or something since if she does stall when first started, she will start perfectly the second time. Most times she will start great “on the button” without any issues.
We also fitted a new temperature sender for the gauge (as the old one didn’t really read anything), but it unfortunately doesn’t work properly and over reads; claiming that it is running too hot. But it doesn’t overheat at all and fan kicks in when it should. So it probably wants a genuine NOS sensor instead of the modern replacements. Would also suggest doing the thermostat at some point as it does seem a tad sticky (you can hear it click), but does always open.
Other than that, she runs and drives extremely smoothly with a very light and responsive clutch and gearbox, decently weighted steering and fantastic brakes with new rear wheel cylinders as well.
The bonnet stay plastic brackets have broken off due to fragile 90s ABS plastic, so you have to manually apply the bonnet stay when you want to access the engine and remove it and put it in the boot when you’re done (otherwise it will fall out of the engine bay as it is not held in) They’re probably available, but it wasn’t a massive priority for us to fix since it’s not much effort to simply grab it from the boot when you need bonnet access, and it stays where it’s put when the bonnet is up.
She has surface rust in places, including some on the subframes. Nothing serious, but probably all wants to be addressed at some point with some kind of protection after a good clean up. However, the sills and arches are in fantastic shape for a Mondeo of this age, with all the factory pinch welds visible. We also will include some sill and arch repair panels though as we have them from a previous failed Mondeo project. They’re brand new and ready if you ever need them.
The cambelt while in good visual condition and seems tensioned properly, we have no indication of how old it is so assume you might need to do that at some point. The auxiliary belt is also looking like it will want doing at some point as well.

Some lacquer peel on the bonnet. But despite that, the paint actually looks really nice when cleaned up, and would probably look spectacular if time was spent with a buffing wheel.

Original and rare GLX hubcaps and mudflaps, and while not in perfect condition, they do all look super cool in our opinion.

Sunroof works a treat and doesn’t leak even when jet washed. All windows work, and all door locks including the deadlock that can be activated by turning the key to the unlock position while unlocked, and then to the lock position and then you hear it activate.

Original spec Mondeo 2006 RDS radio cassette player that has been calibrated and serviced and sounds fantastic with the upgraded Pioneer speakers fitted in place of the original blown Ford ones in the doors.

Very comfy velour seats with lumbar adjustment on both sides! (with electric height adjust on the drivers side)

Comes with 3 sets of keys, including the very important red key which is required if any new keys need to be programmed to the car in the future.

3 OEM Ford rubber floor mats (we could only get 3 at the time!), and 2 OEM Ford floor mats from a MK2 Ghia X. The only reason we’re selling is due to downsizing the fleet to smaller cars due to lack of space and wanting something different in the process.
