AUSTIN SEVEN MASON SPECIAL
This well-known and unique car is based on a 1933 Austin Seven chassis, was built by 750 Motor Club (MC) member Nev Mason in 1959/ 60 and registered with Kent County Council on 1 October 1960. Modelled on a Super Accessories ?Cadet? body design, this car is the brainchild of Nev Mason and remains largely true to his vision of being both a road and a race car. The body is comprised of a tubular space frame with aluminium sheeting and a fibreglass nose cone. Suspension is spring and shock absorbers. The engine is a ?spit and hope? with oil filter, 2-bearing crank, 747cc Austin Seven engine with modifications, made to lower the profile. The gearbox is a 4-speed syncro with close ratio gears on third to top. The exhaust is a 4 into 2 design. The wheels are 15 inch Speedex alloys on the front and 15 inch wires on the back, the tyres are a year old. I have all the original build pictures and invoices (together with the prices!) and they will come with the car. Raced with the 750MC since 2001 when I bought it. However, I sold the car in 2015 then bought it back in 2020 since when I have continued to race it. Changes made to original design include installation of a Phoenix crankshaft, Speedex cylinder head and upgrading from 6 to 12 volt. The engine had a complete rebuild in 2022 which included a new Phoenix crankshaft and the inclusion of an oil filter. The car is road legal and was Mot?d every year for the first 15 years of my ownership and is now MoT exempt. It comes with a fire extinguisher (in date).
RACING
This car has been campaigned in initially the 750MC Trophy racing series and latterly the Historic 750 Formula since 2001 (with a break from 2015 to 2020) providing hours of great enjoyment if not spectacular success. It has been extremely reliable if not extremely fast but did win, for 8 of the 15 years, the Dingo Trophy given by Ken Cooke and awarded, each season, to the most successful road-going Austin Seven car.
This car can either be just driven and enjoyed (down the pub) or taken racing again for further fun.
