1989 Lotus Esprit SE Turbo available for sale from ourselves. This particular example has been in the hands of its private keeper for the past 3 years, with 6 previous owners on the logbook. We have a huge service history file to accompany the Lotus which shows how well cared for she has been through all of its custodians. With jaw dropping looks and hair raising performance, it's no wonder why the Esprit was the poster vehicle of choice for many growing up in the 80's and 90's. I have wanted to own one for many many years, whoever said 'don't meet your hero's' clearly didn't buy themselves a Lotus Esprit!
In the large service history binder there is a comprehensive service history from its PDI back in 1989, right up to 2022. The original lotus service book / handbook is present which has stamps in as follows; PDI, 12k, 18k, 22k, 24k, 39k, 42k, 46k, 50k, and the last in 2019 at 56k. Although there is a large gap in the service book from 1997 - 2019, I have a total of 34 pages of invoices and parts replacement bills; 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2019 and 2022. From 2009 to 2019 the Lotus spent time in Germany. In the service history binder I have 17 pages of parts replacement invoices and service bills with mileages listed. Once the Lotus arrived back on these shores she was subject to a mechanical overhaul and 'C' service at Stocks Sports Cars which included; timing pulley / crank, front wheel bearings, front cover gasket, new steering rack, track rod ends, oil, oil filter, heat shield, ignition leads, gaskets, tensioner bearings, tensioner springs, spark plugs, all belts replaced, cam cover gasket, new wheel centres and new headlamp motors. Then in 2022 the Esprit was treated to an 'A' service at South West Lotus Centre which included; new clutch, gearbox rebuild, 10W60 race oil, front brake pads, rear crankshaft seal, forte diff and gear treatment and a full geometry / tracking set up. Needless to say, this Esprit SE Turbo has wanted for absolutley nothing. From 2019 to 2023 the speedo binacle was in-op (see previous MOT's online), the gauges were professionally rebuilt in 2023 so the miles have increased since the current MOT.
To drive? Magnificent! The Lotus Esprit is such a fabled and iconic vehicle that everytime you get the pleasure to drive her, it feels like a priviledge. The driving position is perfection, the weight and sharpness of the steering inspires nothing but confidence, the throttle response is sharp when required, once she comes on boost it pulls hard right up into the upper echelon of the rev range as it should. She handles our lovely British roads with poise and dignity, excellent road manners with a positive and precise clutch and gearbox combination. Suffice to say she starts, idles, accelerates, handles and brakes all as you would expect, and possibly better. Due to being the SE turbo fitted with the chargecooler this model puts out a claimed 264BHP, quite a large chunk over the N/ A models (172BHP) and pre chargecooled turbo models (217bhp) This all adds to the theatre and driving experience.
Just look at it! Both the Giugiaro Esprit and Peter Stevens Esprit are fine examples of automotive art, this particular vehicle is no exception. Every panel is the correct shade of red with no sun fade nor lacquer peel, all the panel gaps are where they should be and none of the body panels are showing any signs of its age. Very little in the way of stone chips or imperfections, I would argue that this Esprit is up there with the best examples you'll find. That said, its not new, nor do we hope you expect as such, but considering the age and mileage she is absolutely gorgeous. The interior is in fine fettle, no rips or tears to the leather upholstery, carpets, headlinging or interior trim. The seats in particular are in excellent order. There is some minor sun fade to the carpet on the door shut / sill area, and some of the wood veneer on the drivers binicle has some age related cracking. Again, shes not new, but more than commensurate in condition. The engine bay is immaculate, all the paint on the rocker cover and charge cooler is impeccable and show worthy, no oil leaks or stainage to the silver engine block, and even the rear stickers under the boot lid are present and clean.
So there we are! An exceptional example of the Lotus Esprit SE Turbo, 264BHP, huge service history file, 9 service stamps, 51 pages of service invoices and parts replacement bills, mechanical overhaul in 2019, new clutch and gearbox rebuilt in 2022, absolute perfection to drive, no issues to mention whatsoever, ready to drive away and be enjoyed by its new lucky custodian. Well worth travelling to view, we certainly don't think you will be disappointed.
