Intro:
The P38 replaced the legendary Original Range Rover Classic from 1994 onwards, and this example is one of the most famous P38?s in existence, since it was prominently featured in press shots for Jaguar Land Rover, multiple magazine appearances and on the JLR stand at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2010 for their 40th anniversary. This is all documented in the extensive history file, and this is a fantastic opportunity to own a great modern classic that is synonymous with the famed British marque.
Exterior:
The car comes in the fantastic shade of Oslo Blue, but has some usage marks and usual wear and tear from a car of its age. It provides the new owner a fantastic opportunity to turn this P38 into one of the best examples on the market, the current owner simply doesn?t have the time to give due to multiple other ongoing projects. The windscreen also has a very minor chip on the drivers side which can be repaired, and there are dents on the rear tailgate and on the bonnet - as seen on the photos.
Interior:
The interior is in really excellent condition for a car of this age with the seats showing little signs of age and the colour really shining through. The blue carpets are also in good condition and the car comes with carpet protectors to ensure the mud doesn't end up in the wrong places. There are some dents on the rear seats but apart from that the car is in great condition and requires little to have in Concours condition. The car has recently had a new headlining fitted, the steering wheel is in good condition with some wear starting to appear on all the usual leather wear points, and all switches are in working condition with only the drivers upwards command of the rear left window needing some attention.
Engine:
The ?Thor? 4. 6-litre engine features a Bosch Motronic engine management system and drives excellently. The ride is incredibly smooth, and would make a lovely cruiser for anyone.
Gearbox:
The 3 speed Chrysler 747 3 speed works very well and fits the car?s character being very laid back for a luxury SUV.
Drivetrain:
With a Borg Warner 4462 transfer box, the P38 used an electronic control unit to change between high and low ratios. The transfer casing chains and sprockets were reinforced for the P38 and the front and rear differential features a 4-pin diff and 4-wheels traction control.
Chassis:
The chassis for the P38 used new welding techniques and was even stronger than the original?s. This also helped make the chassis and body not as prone to corrosion, as can be seen from this example.
Suspension:
The car?s air suspension (EAS) was a significant improvement on the Classic?s system, and featured automotive height adjustment determined by the vehicle's speed. The car offers five different options for the driver, being: Access, Motorway, Standard, Off-road and Off-road extended, with off road extended only accessible if the car was beached. The EAS works well on this car.
Brakes:
The car features an anti lock braking system and they all work as they should.
Steering:
The assisted steering is light and very easy to use.
Wheels & Tyres:
The classic 5-spoke Range Rover Hurricane alloys suit the car very well and have recently been refurbished, including new Pirelli Scorpion Verde 255/ 55/ R18 tyres. With an intensive history folder detailing all of the work undertaken to this example, interested parties are welcome to request any further details. A small snapshot of recent works include, but are not limited to, full suspension overhaul, new airbags and height sensors, full engine service, new headlining, replaced rear shocks, replaced rear brake pads and so on.
