I?m really gonna miss this car big time!
Reason for sale: 100+ mile daily commute in city and motorway and I?ve come to realise I need a boring eco diesel replacement for the higher mpg?s needed, sad times.
I fell in love and bought this Volvo in very early April this year for three reasons: We were due to move house, it is a great car for Le Mans camping and I absolutely love a 740 wagon, especially a posh GLE one like this with low miles and all the bells and whistles from days gone by,
Now I?m an ex-rwd specialist mechanic garage owner and I know these cars stupendously well. This one needed a bit of TLC when I got her and now she?s cracking!
Previous owner changed the timing belt and v-belts in autumn 2022.
I?ve done many various bits on it such as:
Welded up a hole that was in near side footwell nicely,.
Various new bushings here and there.
New rear springs.
Front brake pads, rear discs & pads.
Replaced off-side seized rear brake caliper.
Brake fluid flush.
Several oil services (I do 500+ miles a week so it?s had an oil service every couple of months).
New near side rear light cluster.
I?m sure there are many other things I?ve done and much more I can?t remember?
It?s worth noting she?s a ?squinty-minty?. Bodywork as a whole is straight, but she has a few blemishes and battle scars, then at 33 who doesn?t!
Underneath is good, chassis rails in nice general condition and generally good for her age. She does have a slight oil weep from sump, but ironically she seems to barely use any oil, which for one of these is good.
Engine pulls well (these b230 lumps are generally really reliable if not abused) and gearbox does its job well.
Having a few new bushings here and there and new springs means she?s surprisingly agile in the right hands and corners nicely, holding the road better than many think it would.
She does have a few niggles like lack of headlining material (did buy furry textured paint to paint it but you know? life gets in the way). Heater blower works, but only on full (resistor packed up) this never bothered me as it?s part of her charm.
I?m genuinely gonna really miss my reliable old Volvo wagon big time, but with a long daily commute after our move in April I can?t justify fuel costs vs eco diesel and keeping it when I already have two other driveway queens resting under their blankets?
I know this is a cliche saying but I genuinely would jump in my Volvo and drive it anywhere. It?s a comfy wafty lovely ole barge to cruise about in, if I don?t get what I want for it, I won?t sell it, simples. I really want it to go to someone who?s gonna love and enjoy it, it?s a great car.
Can send a WhatsApp video of a start and walk around if you like. It?s absolutely awesome to waft around in. I often get a thumbs up and comments like ?they don?t make?em like that anymore?.
I?m gonna really, really miss this car.
