The Appeal

Sensible doesn’t need to mean boring, as this stylish Swedish wagon ably proves. Yes, it’s a Volvo, so it’s comfortable, spacious, and ruggedly well-built, all qualities to keep the family happy. But then there’s the warbly straight six 3L turbocharged engine and planted AWD, all there to put a smile on the face of the lucky pilot.

The exposed exhaust tail tips identify this smart black estate as a 2011 car with the more powerful B6304T4 engine, which offers a healthy 20bhp power boost over the earlier T6. It began its life in Japan and remained there until earlier this year, enjoying the nation’s famously high maintenance standards and salt-free roads. They explain the condition, which is impressive for a car that has just turned 15.

As is typical of Japanese market cars, this one carries a very high factory specification, including a high-end stereo, a DVD player with rear entertainment, and smart two-tone leather. The history file and stickers on the car - a common Japanese practice - indicate regular maintenance, most recently just prior to sale.
