For sale is my facelift E46 M3 coupe, finished in Carbon Black with Imola Red leather. Car is non-sunroof and a factory manual. It’s now on 165k (engine on 85k-ish) but this will rise a smidge as I still use it every now and then. Service book is stamped up 2019, then serviced by the previous owner and myself since with receipts to prove. I also have a folder full of additional history/ receipts/ maintainence/ etc. It’s recently had a couple grands worth of work done by Tom at Spartan Automotive consisting of gearbox/ diff oil changes, health check, shifter change, rear suspension rebuild, etc. Drives spot on and always has done in the 8k miles I’ve done in it, rain or shine.

I bought this particular car because I wanted to get familiar with one of these that had been well sorted but not in such a condition that would’ve had me worried about using it. I. e. if you’re hunting for an original concours example, this is not the car for you. If you’re looking to daily one or want one that’s on the button for track days/ fast road, then do read on.
—————————————————————————
I bought the car from a friend in the Spring last year. Up until his ownership it had remained standard all its life bar a set of Eibach’s, but since his purchase in 2019/ 2020 its had a fair chunk of money thrown at it as can be seen in the specs. He was looking to gain a bit of experience driving on circuit so upgraded the car to comfortably pound round all day without any issues cropping up. It ultimately only saw a handful of track days, went to the odd show and then spent the rest of the time tucked away in his unit whilst with him.

When I then took ownership in April last year, I took it to Select Motorsport for a health check, got the all clear and began using it daily straight away. Apart from having to replace a faulty throttle position sensor, I’ve had no problems with it whatsoever. I parked it up in my unit just before winter to avoid the salt and started tweaking a couple of things to make it a little more road-friendly (shifter changed back to OEM+ from a Coolerworx, suspension changed to Bilstein B12 from BC “True” Coilover). Despite that, all I’ve really done with it this year is taken it to the occasional coffee morning, out for the odd blast at a weekend, and have given it a few runs up Prescott Hill. Subsequently, I’m thinking about switching it up for something else.

For clarification, I’ll cover a few things that might deter some buyers. The bodywork is good for the mileage, solid and dent-free, but it’s not mint. There’s a few imperfections and the front bumper has got its fair share of stone chips. As can be seen in the photos, the P/ S side skirt has a split in it. Previous owner had the car on 18x10’s for a short while and it’s rubbed/ cracked a minor amount of paint on the P/ S rear arch (doesn’t need replacing, just tidying). Underneath the car however is great. The two MOT’s it’s been for in my ownership have surfaced two comments; “This is tidier underneath than most I’ve seen with half the mileage” and “this has had a lot of money spent on it”. The outer fold handle on the passenger front seat has been damaged from getting trapped behind the cage at some point, have been told this is an easy/ cheap fix. The OE fuel pump failed a few years ago and was replaced by a Walbro. It doesn’t appear to hold fuel pressure as well when the car’s switched off, so 1 in every 5 times you start the car, it starts on the second turn of the key and not the first. It’s been a non-issue for me so have had no desire to do anything about it.

Car won’t be viewed where it’s kept, and don’t turn up with your whole 5-a-side team. I’ll be doing any test drives and will want proof of funds prior.

I’m asking £13950 and that’d be my preferred method of sale, but I would potentially be interested in taking an E28, E30 coupe or E34 in p/ x with cash my way. Not overly fussed about engine type but would have to be a manual car, in tidy condition and ideally unmodified. Would also consider Mk2 Golfs, E36 318is’ and Mk1 MX5’s in similar condition, but then with a serious chunk of cash my way.
