Originally owned by Nat West Bank, this Rover P5B 3. 5 V8 saloon with 119922 miles, has an extensive service history including transmission overhaul, cylinder heads overhaul, and brakes within the last 15k miles or so.

Although not mandatory, this car has just passed the MOT and new rear brake cylinders installed.

The usual rust problems have been addressed and the car presents well. Some crazing of the finish on the roof and a small area of paint lifting at the lower rear corner of the right rear door. Overall the paint finish is good.

Much of the chrome shows typical pitting. The rear bumper has been painted on the underside. The wheels show pitting of the chrome and some surface rust around the wheel nuts. The body side, rocker panel, door sill and window mouldings are all in excellent condition.

Car runs well but is no longer being driven regularily.

Interior is original and in good condition. Driver's side carpet and seat showing their age but still presentable. Wood trim is in nice condition all around.

Front tyres have very few miles.

Recent battery.

This car always attracts positive comments and a hobbiest owner could gradually transform it to show quality without taking it down for a major restoration.

The present owner bought it in the early 90's and, over time, has invested in its soundness and appearance while remaining true to the original design.

Always garage kept, it has averaged about 1000 miles per year until recently. It had an electric fan and 3-core radiator fitted and almost every component in the braking system has been replaced over the last 20 years, including recent master cylinder and servo.

Both rear wings were replaced years ago and the other typical rust areas addressed.

I have put this ad together on the owner's behalf. My specialty is vintage aircraft but I have some old car knowledge. I've detailed this car and spent some time assessing its condition for the purpose of writing this description. The enrichment valves on the carbs were sticking. I lubricated the linkage at the carbs which cured that problem. The motor now runs very smooth. Some of the smaller coolant hoses were replaced at the MOT garage but replacememt of the remainder of the hoses is recommended due to age.

The park pawl in the transmission does not engage. Not sure if this is an adjustment problem or if the pawl is sticking because the car was sitting for the past couple of years . The price has been reduced assuming the pan needs to be removed to repair or replace the park pawl.

Also during the MOT shop visit, the parking brake was serviced, rear brake cylinders replaced, right sealed beam and side light bulb replaced, and the windscreen washer pump replaced.

Car drives well and is definitely a head turner!
