Description
I bought this early 1300 X1/ 9 on eBay last year. It ran fine, had been recently resprayed (what a bonus!). I checked all the usual X1/ 9 weak points (on the driveway) and decided to go for it. I had it transported home where it sat in a humidity controlled Permabag cover/ car cover until I found time recently to find a garage to recommission it, to get it back to it's former glory. The garage had a long job list, however they called me the next day to express their absolute horror as to what lurked underneath - I had to go and see it on the ramp for myself. They pointed out several poor repairs, pop rivetted plates, no-more-nails glue, fibreglass and thick underseal. There were one or two areas of serious corrosion in places anyone would need a ramp to spot. In the garage's opinion the car is structurally unsound as it is, but could be made structurally solid again by a skilled welder with lots of time. There are many sections of the chassis, suspension turrets, inner/ outer sills and all the panels in excellent solid condition, I really think that it has too much going for it to break it. I have plenty of photos of the good and bad bits.
I am being upfront about the condition. A proper inspection is recommended (on a ramp is best - but I don't have one). I am open to any questions.
I am reluctant to break it for spares. These early X1/ 9's are getting very rare. It has the very rare early metal quarter bumpers, and all the rare interior and exterior hard-to-source parts and trim. If someone took it on to repair that would be great. If it has to eventually be broken then so be it.
I had two early deck chair style seats professionally reupholstered (I can send a YouTube video) and five Cromodora alloys wheel professionally refurbished, and new Yokohama tyres fitted. These are for sale seperately, please message me.
I also have a number of new, refurbished and secondhand spares (some very rare) which I now don't need. If there is anything you are looking for please message me. This is the purest earlier version of Marcello Gandini's design. Often referred to as the baby Ferrari. Drive one and you'll know why. I have owned two of the later 1500 models previously.
This could be a way into owning an increasingly rare 1300 model. You would be hard pushed to find one for under £10k.
