Stunning and very rare 1968 Ford Mustang GT manual S code 390 Big Block in presidential blue with C stripes and front end disc brakes. The vin tags on dash and door are present and matching. Its Marti Report states that it was produced on April 2nd 1968.
The external package is complemented by a by a beautiful blue interior with bucket seats and a GT wooden deep dish steering wheel.
This beautiful Mustang was first brought to the UK by Alan Carrington Cars in 2005 and was then the subject of a concours restoration around 2008.
Its next UK owner added a number of restomods. I however wanted a more original look and have restored the car so that, visually, it appears original whilst retaining the additions which aid drivability.
I have never driven a car which garners quite so much attention - people absolutely love it and it is very special. I had wanted a 68 Mustang for many years and purchased the car from Bill Shepherd Mustang in 2017. No expense has been spared in keeping this car in great condition and I am the sixth owner since 1968.
It comes with a massive folder of information, old MOT’s and receipts of mine and previous owners. It’s in very good condition and is ready to drive away by someone who I hope will love it as much as I have. First imported to the UK in 2005 by Alan Carrington Cars, this Ford Mustang 390 GT Fastback arrived as a matching numbers original car.
Paperwork states concours restoration was undertaken around 2008, also by Alan Carrington Cars.
A later owner, around 2011/ 12 wanted a far more ‘restomod’ look with Shelby additions (which I subsequently removed). In addition to these visual items, the car was fitted with:
Rod and Custom coil over suspension with rack and pinion steering at the front end.
The engine was removed and painted.
The hydraulic tappets were removed and replaced with race option
Le Mans dress up kit was applied with light weight inlet manifold and new 750 CFM Holley carb.
Pertronix electric ignition was also fitted.
New 5 speed tremac gearbox installed with steel scatter shield and cable clutch.
3” bespoke exhaust was fitted to flow master exhaust manifolds with Eleanor style side exit pipes (I have removed these and the car now has 4 rear pipes) as we found the side ones cooked passing pedestrians and gassed us if the window was open!
The rear end has also been fitted with a tru track locker LSD fitted by Hauser racing.
The previous owner also altered the interior and added a Shelby Boot lid. Fortunately, he retained the original fittings and I refitted the original interior upon purchasing the car.
So now, the car looks classic but has the advantages of much better rack and pinion steering as well as a 5 speed box which drives smoothly and is perfect for motorway runs with that magnificent original V8 390 engine burbling in the background.
In the years that I have owned the car, I have kept a rolling schedule of maintenance as is required with 55 year old classics.
Work which I have undertaken has included restoring the original interior, and respraying areas where paintwork was beginning to look tired. I also replaced any chrome that was beginning to dull.
I had the whole car rewired a couple of years ago as the wiring was mainly original and somewhat past sell by.
It now runs beautifully, it’s great to drive and turns heads wherever it goes.
No expense has been spared in keeping this car in great condition and whilst it’s not concours, it looks great. I have owned it since 2017 and am only selling as I never get the time to drive it.
