Description

This is a little different to your usual fare. Not for purists, rather for those who like to be different, somewhat surprising and who appreciate classic car looks with more modern and well thought out engineering improvements.

Engine

2. 0 Ford Zetec Blacktop DOHC engine (code EDDC) with 4 bike carbs (Yamaha R6) and manifold kit from Dan ST Engineering. It runs pretty much spot on and produces circa 150bhp which is well over twice the original A series.
Many MG owners go the K series route but the Zetec is better offering far more power, tuning potential and reliability. A Ford Type 9 5speed gearbox is fitted with lightened flywheel. Larger capacity Westfield radiator and electric fan with otter switch and override. There are no cooling issues whatsoever.

Ignition

Wasted spark coil pack with programmable NoDiz (Motorsport Electronics) ECU. The ECU has potential for laptop updates and fine tuning. It’s currently on the standard setup and works fine.

Suspension

Frontline front suspension system with adjustable dampers front & rear. Polybushed all round. Peter May 400 x 81/ 4 race front springs. Peter May 13/ 4 anti roll bar

Brakes

Wilwood Dynalite 120-6808 calipers, 9” x 7mm drilled discs, rear drums (parts for rear disc conversion available)
Non-servo

Underneath

Peter Lloyd anti tramp kit (Escort Mk2), Peter May competition ½ shafts. Maniflow LS031 straight back exhaust system

Interior

New carpet set, new rear panel, new centre console. Fully soundproofed, new door rubbers and cards, boot seal. New colour coordinated dashboard and wiring behind it. Corbeau classic 70’s bucket seats with headrests. Willans full harness with 3” belts. Roll bar with some padding

Exterior

Finished in Old English White with dark blue painted racing stripes. Goodwood flip front with Spitfire chrome catches. Also complete with Ashley fastback detachable hardtop with glass, not the usual Perspex. Matching boot lid for when the hard top is detached.
4 new Revolution alloy wheels and tyres

Improvements

One or two small areas of crazing starting to appear on the roof. Nothing to detract from the appearance.
Odometer doesn’t work, needs mating up to the ECU for the feed signal
Speedo reads about 25% light due to being mated to the type 9. Needs a gearwheel change at the drive end.

To go with the car

Invoices, 2 boxes of spares including alternative weber 32/ 36 DGAV carb, hoses, gaskets, trim, spare coil pack, filters, and many other bits
No mot or tax required as registered as historic

Decline in health means I am no longer able to enjoy the car as was intended, be assured if this wasn’t so it wouldn’t be for saleIt is absurdly quick, handles beautifully and is extremely responsive. It can accelerate up most hills in 5th. It is just immense fun and of course much enjoyment may be had by surprising many modern sports cars. You can of course simply bimble along and enjoy the countryside leaving the car in a higher gear and using the extra torque available over a normal Midget.
