Description
This is a restored Pigalle Beetle. Volkswagen offered red interiors as an option on white and black Beetles. These cars are known as Pigalle option Beetles and were only available in 1966. This car was bought new by its first owner from Jack Frost dealership in Hauxton, Cambridge. The first owner named the car Ferdy and kept the car until 1993 when he was no longer able to drive it. The first owner passed the car onto his grandson. The grandson used the car, but it was in a very poor state. In 2008 the grandson decided to have the car restored by Chris Gilly in Stockport. From 2008 to 2021 the car covered just 4500 miles, and in 2022 I bought the car from Classic Chrome in London. I am now only the third owner of the car.
When I bought the car it was in beautifully restored condition and fitted with an uprated 1584cc engine and reconditioned gearbox. Since I purchased the car BJ Speed shop in Bodium Kent have fitted a new, hand built. incredibly smooth, 1600 engine, electronic fuel pump, new VW steering box, Vintagespeed stainless silencer and CB Magnaspark ignition. Additionally the engine bay tin work has been powder coated, and the exhaust heater boxes have been ceramic coated. All the associated invoices are on file. The underside of the car is in superb condition, and is regularly Waxoyled. The car is showing 134, 000 miles on the clock. However, the initial restoration works were completed in 2008 to 2012, and then just 4500 miles passed before I had the work mentioned above done. Since the latest work the car has travelled about 250 miles. There is a great story about the car and its first owner, which is documented but far too long to include here.
The car comes with a full box file of painstakingly recorded history, documenting Ferdy from new to date, with all invoices and receipts. Also present are its original VW Service Book and green log book, Owners handbook, MOT certificates, Tax Discs, Authentication Certificate from VW, and a CD with over 100 photo's of its restoration carried out between 2008-12.
Although restored and subtly modernised in places, every effort has been made to retain the look and feel of the original car. Ferdy presents beautifully and is good enough to show.
