Description
For sale is my Porsche 912, which I have owned for 2 years.
Built in 1966 and first registered on January 1st 1967, this stunning short wheel base (SWB) version was imported from Nebraska (USA) in 2021 by the previous UK owner.
The former American owner restored the vehicle, replacing parts as required, including new bushes, brakes, shocks and a fuel tank. The engine also had a rebuild and the worn Solex carbs were replaced with a set of genuine Weber 40s. My understanding is that the rebuilt engine is not original, although it is correct for the car.
In the UK the car was fitted with a programmable Bluetooth 123 distributor, which works extremely well in conjunction with an app to give you speed, RPM, oil temperature, and set the ignition timing. This modern addition makes this a very enjoyable and reliable regular driver. The previous UK owner also advised that the car has been re-jetted and set up on a rolling road. He had the car lowered slightly to European specification and then had all 4 wheels aligned. The car looks perfect sitting on its original 4. 5 x 15 steel wheels and brand new tyres, with standout Porsche emblem hub caps. All the rubber seals and gaskets were replaced at the time of the near perfect respray in Signal Red, alongside refinishing of the exterior chrome trim.
This car has zero rust, has never been driven in the wet by me and has always been garaged under an additional car cover. The interior benefits from a tasteful partial restoration, with replacement seat covers and square weave carpet, but retaining the original headlining, which is in excellent condition. Lap belts and Coco floor mats have been added and it retains it’s extremely sort after and valuable original wood rim steering wheel. Another nice touch is that the original Blaupunkt radio has been fully rebuilt and works well. There are lots of receipts and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, which will be included in the sale.
When I purchased the vehicle there was no discernible service record, although a thorough inspection provided reassurance that the car had been well maintained since its restoration. In my ownership I have completed 2 major services, including oil and filter changes, gearbox oil change, valve adjustments, spark plug change, fan belt replacement, brake fluid change, alongside all other checks and adjustments. I have also recently replaced the gearbox mounts and refurbished all the original dials, so they are now clear and bright.
You’ve heard this before, but this is a VERY reluctant sale. We are moving house and despite the new property being just what we want, I am going from a double detached garage to a single integral one. This means there is no room to for my 912 and the thought of it being sat outside over the winter months has prompted this sale.
Setting the price for any classic car is tricky and, ultimately, they are worth what someone is prepared to pay. I have seen good examples going for £65k plus and it would be easy to get carried away for this remarkable car. In issue 2025 #2 of their magazine, Hagerty identified the 912 in its ‘Bull Market List’ as a next best buy, which is not surprising as this model is a perfect entry into the golden age of Porsche cars.
In setting the price for this car I have taken various factors into account. As a starting point I have used the Hagerty valuation guide and have adjusted for engine originality, which Hagerty suggests can affect prices by up to 10%, although this typically relates more to poorer examples where matching numbers are the main selling point. This is not the case for this car as the paint, bodywork, chassis and running gear are simply outstanding and the rebuilt engine runs incredibly well and just looks great. Indeed, I have not seen a car of this age in better condition and it remains my go to drive when the weather is dry. This short wheel base version handles exceptionally well and with the lighter flat 4 engine, as opposed the identically bodied but heavier 911, you can really enjoy working it through the bends. The fully analogue 4 speed gearbox is very compliant and offers a driving experience that is intoxicating. For information, the 4 speed box has the same high and low ratios as the 5 speed box, just with fewer gears in between.
You might have guessed, I love this car, and I’m sure you will too. Feel free to contact me for more information or to arrange a viewing. I appreciate buying a car like this is a big step and I will do everything I can to make it a positive experience.
