V5 is in my name. Low Mileage at around 87K - car is in use daily weather permitting
I acquired the 928 S in May 2023 after a LONG search and the car was in good running order and I used it a fair amount during summer 2023 while testing / combing it through mechanically with the more extensive work done winter 2023/ 24. A lot of the work below was done preventatively as its a 40 year old car so no chances taken on bolt on bits in every category of the car.
The work is done in conjunction with Sussex Automotive who I've entrusted for a good 15 years. I use the car in good weather. I get a bit itchy for a new project once I finish up a car so hence why Im floating it online. No other 928S for sale is this sorted. The “S” model is generally preferred to the S2 and S4 (engine) as it’s more simple and easier to work on with a lot less electronics.
For a bit of background. Car was stored 2007 to 2014 in a storage place with most miles done before 2008. Recommissioned by previous owner in 2015 with all belts / liquids / brakes etc done. The car was then hardly used (see MOT History) and looked after at a basic level from 2014 to 2023. Receipts and invoices from this time is filed but not extensive. Recommissioning receipts are all there.
In my ownership I have done the following. Keep in mind that most of this is preventative work as the car is 40 years old and I enjoy the challenge of delving into classics and not being caught out on old bolt on parts.
The car was also fully resprayed in its original colour, OEM metallic Hell Bronze (winter 2023) minus the roof panel and hatch as it didn’t need it. The painter (Esser Works near Cowfold Sussex) did a brilliant job with bumpers, mirrors , trim, glass off (rear quarter ones). I professionally refurbished every single bit of trim / grille / splitter / spoiler etc. New licence plate holders / bolts / nuts / all indicator lenses / badges / decals / bulbs etc etc. The aim was to make a car that look new. the old sill coating was fine so just flattened and recoated with raptor lining. I have endless photos of the car before paint so it's easy to see that it was only tired with zero rust on the steel panels. There was some bubbling on the lower front fenders due to oxidation of the aluminium under the paint. Everything was prepped meticulously.
Additionally to the work listed below (send message for full list) The car was at 928 Specialist in Dec 2024 for the full front and bottom engine refresh which included all belts incl timing belt, water pump, oil pump, ALL the seals that you can think of and then some. A full comb through of the car was also done and everything was set up properly before being returned just before xmas.
Since then I have driven the car around 340 miles with a new MOT and full check over THIS WEEK ready for the summer season.
I did have the car up for sale in January but once presented with the reality of 2 buyers, I decided at the time I wanted to keep it. This time, (I promise) I am ready to move on and start a new classic car project. Once finished with a car I usually move on pretty quick as I love the process of projects but I've had this for 2 years and it's taken a lot of time and money to get it here.
Summary -
The car handles and drives brilliantly. It's very forgiving over our rough UK roads with its OEM suspension.
Ride height at 175mm on all 4 corners. (OEM height) The hunter wheel alignment put everything where it should be.
Keep in mind, its a 40 year old car, it has some minor marks and it doesn’t drive like a modern car, heavy-ish power steering, some interior noise and lots of smiles.
The car has never been welded or crashed. I have photos of the repaint and as you would see, the paint was tired only. Keep in mind that the hood, fenders, doors are aluminium.
Not looking for part exchange, to ship abroad, crypto deal or convince you that it’s the right car for you. There is plenty of great info online about these cars and this model. You would be buying a 928S that doesn’t need endless work / time and worrying about so no matter how shiny the other 15k 928 looks on photos, it's not a match for this one. please message for full work and history. It won't fit in 5000 word limited boxes.
