Description
For sale my 1990 Harley-Davidson FXSTC Softail Custom in its original paint - imported from the US a few years back (which means it was never castrated like the EU versions). These early 1340 Evo Softail Customs (or FXSTC to give it the correct title) are cracking bikes and often end up a blank canvass for custom creations, so finding one thats unmolested and as original as this is getting harder these days. This one has had after market pipes/ stage 1, a chain conversion (much easier to improve gearing from the stateside biased set up they came with), oh and its had an upgraded front brake but thats about it.
It comes with a Harley document folder, a 1990 owners handbook, a 1990 model year brochure and both original Harley keys (finding one with two original keys is pretty rare). All in all its a cracking evo softail custom that i'd trust to ride anywhere and if looked after, will do its new owner proud for another 35 years. I intended to keep this long term, so its had all the top end gaskets replaced with up to date (and rather pricey these days) multilayer base gaskets, head gaskets and rocker seals, so the Evo top end oil weep is completely absent. Its also had a (highly recommended) PCV crankcase breather fitted. I have also replaced the rear brake master cylinder, brake line and pads and rebuilt the rear brake caliper. When i bought it, it had long reach foot controls fitted and (as i don't have a 34"+ inside leg) i've replaced these with a set of original standard Harley controls.
When i bought it, someone had fitted an aftermarket speedo to fill in for the original (which had broken) apparently this was one of two secondhand after market speedos the first of which fell apart. I have the last one if you really want it. I have now fitted a genuine Harley speedo unit with the proper rubber mounts which was showing 6500 miles when i bought it and is now showing 6985 miles. So as far as mileage is concerned, the previous owners were not high mileage riders and i would say its actual mileage is probably around the 23-24k mile mark. The way it rides tells me that its a low miles bike, but your guess is as good as mine and at this age, condition means more than mileage.
If you were looking to go original on the exhausts (that was probably my next move), I do have an original rear header pipe that'll help you on your way - assuming a sensible deal is agreed on the bike.
MOT'd until May 25th 2026.
Why sell? I have a small collection of bikes and occasionally, i spot something i can't resist and have to make room. Sadly its the Softail and an Indian Chieftain (my other listing) making room this time.
