You don’t need me to tell you how popular these were in the 1970s or how popular they are again now with those of us who left school during that era and rode them to work or college via the longest route and back! Riding it takes you right back to those glory days when you had your first taste of motoring freedom!
I originally owned this actual fizzy from December 1978 to March 1980, and I then sold it to finance a Suzuki GT125. I rediscovered this bike a few years ago in Norwich and I bought it back and rebuilt it. It's now 50 years old and registered as an Historic Vehicle so no longer requires an MOT and the road tax is free. Non matching numbers as the original engine blew up years ago. The V5C still shows the original matching numbers but you can obviously change that if you wish.
Rebuilt slowly over the last few years, £1000's spent, excellent condition, needs nothing doing to it, runs and rides really well and all the electrics work as they should. It comes with masses of receipts for parts, a Haynes Workshop Manual, parts book and some spares. It also comes with 3 original Yamaha half-moon keys which fit both the ignition and the steering lock – I only had one original key but two more turned up on eBay, and of course I had to have them. Some pattern parts fitted where the originals were unobtainable or simply way too expensive. 23 miles on the clock since the rebuild.
I've noticed a little bubble in the paint on the petrol tank left side rear top edge. According to the chap I bought it from, it was where a small dent was pulled out years ago and the paint in that spot reacted with the metal (I do have a tin of Popsicle Purple paint and a set of decals which come with the bike if you wanted to redo that). That said I don't think its really worth it as it's 99% perfect.
All in all it’s a great piece of motorcycling history which would make a great display piece, or just ride it and enjoy it as Yamaha intended.
Open to sensible offers.
Happy to answer any questions you may have and viewings are more than welcome (I work from home mostly, so can be very flexible with viewings).
If you need it transported, I can recommend a very helpful chap with a van specially adapted for moving bikes all over the country, and he’s super reliable and friendly.
Payment via cash on collection or bank transfer.
Thanks for looking at this lovely piece of 1970’s moped history. They really don’t make them like this anymore do they!
