Description
Alvis TD21 fixed head coupe in great running condition. Engine, clutch, gearbox and suspension totally overhauled in my ownership (5 years) by Alvis specialists. Engine upgraded to TE21 specification with higher compression ratio and electronic ignition, giving approx 140bhp, so excellent performance in modern traffic, with 4-speed and Laycock overdrive gearbox. Originally an automatic car with taller rear axle ratio, the car was converted to manual at its major refurbishment 1988-1992.
E-Z electrical power steering and four structurally-supported retractable seat belts all make for safe driving. Alternator discretely fitted in place of original dynamo. All LED lights for superb illumination.
History from new (1961), including first bill of sale (Lord Leigh of Stoneleigh) and comprehensive service and upkeep history from 2011. Carries MOT certification throughout my ownership, with no advisory comments. Major body off restoration from 1988-1992 (This is the major structural work declared at this advert, when speedo was also reset), and interior refurbished in 2011-12 to high quality in beige leather, West of England cloth headlining and new carpets, to original Alvis patterns. Speedometer recalibrated for taller rear axle ratio and clock converted to electronic initiation, so keeps good time (rare!). All 5 wire wheels rebuilt and enameled 2022-24, with new tyres and inner tubes. All project work supported by photographic evidence and receipts.
This car won our local car club show, last year and is entered in this year's Alvis Owner Club Concours. A great car to drive and enjoy, whizzing past the boring modern stuff. All chrome work complete in very good condition. The 2012 repainting has excellent gloss, albeit with some localised patina. I have really enjoyed owning, improving and driving this car, but - sadly - health issues mean I have to sell.
Just completed a 600 mile round trip to North Yorkshire, from the South Coast: Cruising easily at motorway speeds (passing modern stuff), achieved good mpg and use of no oil at all, highlights the superb performance and reliability of this car. Please give me a call. Comprehensive history from build records, and first ownership, in 1961, including full photographic records of major rebuild 1988-1992, and 2011-2012 total interior and coachwork refurbishment.
This car looks good, is a joy to be seated in, and provides affordable and exciting classic car driving, with performance that matches modern road conditions.
