Description
1981 Chevrolet Corvette C3 – “Layla” – Black on Black.
For sale is Layla, my beloved 1981 Chevrolet Corvette, bought as a 40th birthday present and owned for the past four years. Originally a California car (previously named “Vanessa”), Layla has been garaged for 3. 5 years of my ownership and has never let me down.
This isn’t a trailer queen, Layla is a proper driver’s car. I've taken her on countless runs and she’s been rock-solid reliable every time. She’s got a strong, smooth 5. 7L V8 with tasteful performance upgrades:
- Edelbrock Heads & Intake Manifold
- Holley Carburetor with manual choke
- Stainless Steel Sports Exhaust (sounds gorgeous)
- HMI Distributor conversion
- TH350 3-speed automatic gearbox (smooth and solid)
- Air conditioning and 1981 emissions equipment removed for simplicity and
performance
Layla wears her age with grace – the paint has patina and some oxidation in places, but she still looks fantastic in black. The interior is black cloth and in good shape overall. Electric windows work, central locking and fan don’t (electrical issue – never bothered fixing). She’s got charm and character, not showroom perfection.
Recent maintenance includes:
- Oil change
- Vacuum lines sorted before my ownership
- Driver’s rear axle rebuilt before I bought her
This car has soul, turns heads, and makes every journey feel like a moment. The photos were taken at Forest Recreation Ground, just down the road from where she’s stored at my house in Mapperley Park, Nottingham.
Only selling due to a move back to Brighton and the loss of my second garage. Priced realistically for an honest, usable C3 with some tasty upgrades.

Cheers,
RichI have always been into American Muscle cars and in particular C2 and C3 Corvettes. I bought this as a 40th birthday present to myself at the tail end of Covid. As I am now moving back home to Brighton, I will not have the storage for Layla and my other classic and therefore the she has to go.
