Description

1975 (gold-badged) Factory MGBGTV8 in Tahiti Blue. Offers considered. Owned 30 years, 31k on the odometer but it has done 100k+ in my ownership and PO record indicates it has done 230k in total. Lots of history from my ownership and some from the previous owner. Body largely sound from PO work including comprehensive rust proofing. Repaint by One Stop Body Shop in Lye West Midlands to 'nice driver' standard with engine bay stripped and engine rebuild in 2017. One front wing seam does have a small imperfection, a few touched-up stone-chip speckles on the bonnet. Recent inspection of the wheel arches showed some corrosion in one rear arch under the underseal, body shop estimate £250 to repair. Photos of wing seams, door bottoms and floor added.

MOT in May 2025 no advisories. Tilt and remove sunroof, alarm and central locking. Seats recovered, PO replaced floor carpets, the rest of the interior trim is in good original condition. PO had the overdrive gearbox rebuilt and I had another 100k later, not a success due to errors by professional rebuilder and parts no longer available so I had a Vitesse Mazda 5-speed conversion done last year. I've loved the MGB since it came out, bought the roadster when I received a company car, and when I changed jobs and gave that up bought the V8, children having flown the nest. I was commuting up to 150 miles per day for several years and absolutely loved it, as well as long leisure trips in the UK, Ireland and Le Mans twice each. The performance available from even the low compression factory engine is very enjoyable but long runs can still see fuel consumption in the 30s.

Garaged for the majority of my ownership the body has always been very good, it's had mechanical work over the years as befits a car of its age and mileage. Always very reliable - if it didn't get me to work I didn't get paid, it's only ever stopped on the road twice. Once when I had changed the fuel gauge sender and the new one was reading grossly high and I ran out, the other when a flap started peeling off the fan belt and pulled the distributor wire off the coil - seconds to cut that flap off and refit the wire.

Long retired I find myself doing few miles in the car now as the majority of MG events and trips are done in our MGB Roadster owned even longer. I still service and maintain both cars myself but I'm not getting any younger and crawling over, round and under two MGBs every year is getting harder, hence for sale.
