Description

For sale is a much-loved and used 1961 Morris Minor factory convertible in favoured ‘Clipper Blue’ colour. This is a very well-known car in the MMOC, having been owned by club member Tony Briance for many years before he sadly passed away two years ago. Tony’s widow has decided that the time has come to part with the car (affectionately known as ‘Moggy’ or ‘Jackie’) and pass it on to someone else who will love and use her.

SUMMARY
The car is an original, factory-built convertible and was supplied by Boon & Porter Ltd to its first owner. The car comes with a comprehensive history file which includes a copy of the original retail order from the Nuffield Organization, various invoices from Boon & Porter, e-mail correspondence from the first owner (who made contact with Tony) and photographs. (The discerning will note that the retail order specifies an ‘Old English White’ car, though according to the original owner this was later changed to ‘Clipper Blue’ due to there being a shortage of white and immediate availability in blue.)

The car has always been garaged.

BODYWORK & UNDERSIDE
- As you will see from the photographs, the bonnet has been vinyl-wrapped to celebrate one of the late queen’s jubilees. This could be easily removed by the next owner if desired, however.

-The paintwork is in generally good condition, though as the photographs show it is not perfect.

- There are some minor scuffs and spot repairs.

- The car is structurally sound with no significant rust. There is evidence that the car has been welded in the past and it has been undersealed.

MECHANICAL
- The car is fitted with what is believed to be a 1275cc engine from an MG Midget (Tony changed this before he passed away) - whilst there is no engine number tag, Tony said this was the case and features such as the absence of tappet chest covers corroborate this. However, the V5 still states the original capacity of the engine (948cc) and so this would need to be changed.

- Brakes - servo-assisted but are otherwise the standard drum set-up (all front wheel cylinders replaced last year)

- Front anti-roll bar

- Wheels - Minilite alloys

- Alternator fitted

- Thermostatically operated fan fitted

- Lights - halogens with integrated LED pilot lights

- Water pump replaced last year

- There is some whine from the rear axle, though it has been like this for years and has not got worse.

- The gearbox operates well.

-Exact mileage is unknown due to the speedometer having been replaced. However, old MOT certificates can be used to approximate.

INTERIOR & HOOD
The interior is in lovely condition overall, though there are some age-related scuffs as might be expected. Inertia reel seatbelts are fitted in the front and the driver’s and passenger’s seats are Newton Commercial Suffolks (these retail new at around £840 each).

- The hood is in excellent condition and is in blue ‘Mohair’. It comes complete with the hood cover which poppers on for when the hood is down.

-Whilst all attempts to be accurate and honest in the description have been made, the car is sold as seen and so it is essential that any prospective buyer comes to view the car.
