Description
BMW 8 Series Coupe 840ci (v8 4. 4) Sport Individual. 1997(R).
This is a great opportunity to buy a rare and sort after 840ci Sport in Estoril Blue (Individual 1 of 129 worldwide) with the Grey sport seats and 18” M Parallel wheels. Mechanically it is in very good condition, I am a BMW car club enthusiast and have spent £1000s on it during my 5 years of ownership. To bring it up to excellent condition it needs some cosmetic work and this is reflected in the quick sale asking price.
It has a LPG conversion (well hidden) and runs perfectly on LPG and 4Star but would be a very easy reconversion if for some reason you can’t buy cheap LPG. Registered ULEZ compliant 4 years ago (using the BMW conformity certificate) and this combined with the LPG makes this stunning looking car a very useable classic and Grand Tourer (600 mile)
The car drives and handles very well. It has the desirable later 4. 4 V8 engine and smooth 5 speed auto box with the Steptronic gear change and Sport mode. It is good underneath with a lot of suspension components recently replaced (dampers, arms and bushes). It retains the “Nurburgring” springs so sits at the original ride height and comfort level. The car has the full factory MSport package, please see photo for the full build sheet. The previous owner replaced the Cats and I replaced the exhaust (cat back) with a bespoke Longlife that lets you know it is V8 on start up but quietens down nicely when warm. The 18” MPar wheels were refurbished last year and there is a perfect MPar spare wheel. The Bridgestone tyres are only about 2 years old.
The sport seats( full electric, driver memory ) were reconditioned with new leather panels by the previous owner. Working Alpine head unit, with an Alpine CD changer. A box of spares comes with the car and includes the original BMW CD changer, Alpine DVD Sat Nav refurbished MSports steering wheel and even 2 spare batteries. The batteries are spare, because there are no electrical issues.
The following common issues with these cars have all been fixed by BMW specialists:
. New anthracite headlining
. Sunroof tracks replaced and fully functional
. Engine mounts replaced
. Timing chain tensioners replaced
. New rocker and sump gaskets
. New Longlife exhaust
. Brake callipers refurbished
. Pop Up headlights rebuilt with new adjusters and new wiring looms
. New shock absorbers, and many new suspension arms and bushes
. Recent full Service 2, included fuel filters.
Full early service history book, owners manual, tool kit, 3 keys, and lots of receipts. The electric seats, mirrors, aircon all work.
Just had a new MOT. It initially failed on emissions as it ran out of LPG and the 4star was old as normally petrol only gets used on start up. Passed the MOT the next day when I refilled. The 2 advisories have been taken care of, a full under body inspection is welcomed.
So the car is in a very useable condition but because it has been driven regularly, it would benefit with a front end re-spray; the lower front spoiler is particularly stone chipped. The rear windscreen has some delamination, which is a common fault and the heating elements still works. I spent my money on the suspension and do not have the funds to fix the cosmetic issues and this is reflected in the asking price. Having said that, the car is still good enough to have won a prize at a recent BMW car show !
Viewing welcomed at my home address Medway ME1. You can test drive if you have insurance otherwise I will be happy to take serious buyers for a spin on the motorway.
Edit : more informative on the LPG system.
This is an additional system, all the original Petrol system is still there and working, in fact it must work as the car has to start, on the petrol system and then switch over, if you want it to.
The LPG is a sympathetic conversion, no holes in the bodywork. The additional tank is in the spare wheel well and the filling connector is underneath rear bumper. It is a an easy removal, but I am reluctant to do so, as it works perfectly and LPG is still significantly cheaper. I bought the car from a fellow enthusiast, who had clearly loved the car, had regularly used it and maintained to a high standard. The Estoril blue colour is the best colour and it never fails to get friendly waves whenever I take it out.
