Your chance to own a little bit of motoring history, as featured on JayEmm and Number27 YouTube channels, it is a super rare Audi A2 1. 2tdi. This model, sometimes referred to as the 3L, (although strictly speaking that was the stripped out super lightweight version) is fitted with a 5 speed 'automatic' gearbox that uses a 'robot' to operate the clutch and gears. This, combined with an all aluminium specially developed 1. 2 PD three cylinder engine enables the car to get somewhere close to 100mpg or three litres of diesel per 100km. The car is based on the standard Audi A2 which in itself was 20 years ahead of its time. Audi engineers were tasked with developing a car that could be as economical as possible. It was achieved by extensive use of lightweight components such as alloy suspension parts, aluminium rear drums, magnesium wheels and a thinner windscreen. Obviously this example has all this present including the world's first start stop technology which thankfully is easy to disable. I have restored this car and kept it as close as possible to when it left the Neckarsulm factory in Germany around 2001. The colour is Dolphin Grey metallic with a Soul Black interior. Considering its age the paintwork is in very good condition, with a few tiny dings and scratches here and there. The interior is clean and the seats are in excellent order. Headlining has been re attached in a couple of places but is acceptable. It has an Audi Symphony double din head unit that sounds wonderful through the front and rear speakers, which can be switched to a hidden BlueMusic bluetooth adaptor to allow connectivity to your device. The original unique four stud magnesium alloys are in very good condition and have a virtually new set of matching tyres. New discs and pads up front and new rear brake shoes mean the car stops very well with a powerful handbrake. It has just had a new timing belt and oil change. The display panel between the clocks works perfectly and shows what gear you are in and also the crucial fuel consumption figure. It has the false floor option and climate control. It comes with two keys. The car was driven over to the UK from mainland Europe a while ago by its previous owner, and whilst it was the intention to take it back to the French/ German border region, it ended up being dry stored in his barn until it popped up for sale over a year ago. It will need to be registered for UK use. The car drives spot on, no bumps or clunks. The gearbox operates as it should and the steering is light and positive. The engine pulls well and sounds exactly like a 3 cylinder diesel should! This almost unique little car brings a smile to your face and why on earth this technology of getting maximum fuel efficiency from a Diesel engine through reducing weight wasn't pursued is a mystery when you see three ton EV's lumbering about the roads. Quite simply the 1. 2 A2 was a technological marvel that made it into production. With only 11 of these in the UK they hardly ever come up for sale because Audi never produced a RHD version. The A2 was constructed from top quality materials and is so well engineered they last remarkably well. The all aluminium space frame clad with aluminium and plastic panels means rust isn't an issue, although some suspension and brake components can corrode.
