My Car:

This car was registered on the 29th March 2001 and was resold by Honda (Grimsby I think) early in its life according to the notes I was given when I bought the car. When I bought the car the V5 showed the previous registered owner had the car from December 2004 until 2012. The keeper before me had the car from 2012 until I bought it in 2016 from a motor trader who took in in part exchange.

The car was sold as an MOT failure and the trader had no interest in doing the work. I had been looking for an Accord Type R for a couple of years as I wanted a low mileage one without streams of owners as is common with most type Rs. The most important thing for me was to find want one that had not been heavily modified or showed signs of being thrashed/ abused.

My intention was to restore the car to showroom condition and keep it as a weekend toy. Unfortunately, I never got around to it and now the barn I keep the car in wants me to clear my bits out. I could take it back to my home/ garage or find somewhere else for it but the truth is my enthusiasm has waned.

The Failed MOT & Welding

Rust underneath Accords is their downfall and nearly every car will have been welded at some point. Those that haven’t will be covered in black underseal at some point in their life. The hard part with that is knowing what the underneath was like before it was undersealed. Plenty of unscrupulous owners/ dealers will have covered up badly corroded areas with this black goo which hides the problems. There are cars I looked at before buying this one that had underseal yet you could put a screwdriver through ‘good metal’ that looked fine but obviously would be structurally unsound.

This car was allowed to suffer rust underneath which came to a point after its last MOT 2015 which meant it failed the 2016 MOT.

Offside Front Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded outrigger (2. 4. A. 3)
Nearside Front Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded innerwing (2. 4. A. 3)
Offside Front Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded inner wing (2. 4. A. 3)
Offside Front Subframe mounting prescribed area is excessively corroded chassis to innerwing (2. 4. A. 3)
It will also need the front chassis rails welding (by the front wheels).

After the car failed its MOT the owner part exchanged it as is with a trader up in Lincolnshire who then advertised it as an Mot failure. Even though that is the other end of the country I drove for the best part of 6 hours and 200 plus miles to view. Paid the asking price and arranged for it to be loaded down south.

The car has remained in a dry barn ever since.

So, the car needs to be sorted properly with new metal and fabricated in areas where there is rust/ rot.

Condition

Please study the pictures. The car was COVERED in barn dust and cobwebs when I went to the barn last week. I had the car cleaned and polished. The interior just needed a light wipe. Access to where the car is stored is limited but the few people who came in and saw the car as I was picturing it for this advert had their eyes on stalks… I was explaining its for recommissioning or restoration and the general comment was its stunning! In summary

·  A very rare car.

·  A very rare car with the rarest and most desirable interior options

·  Low mileage

·  Low owners

·  The car is worth significantly more than I am asking in parts alone

·  Hpi Clear no accidents, no old finance etc

·  2 Keys

·  The car needs sorting underneath – plenty of welding and fabricating.

·  The car will need mechanical recommissioning it’s not been driven in 8 years

·  While everything worked as far as I’m aware before it came of the road but there may well be other things that need attention.

·  Sadly, the previous owner lost the service file for the car so there isn’t much in the way of paperwork. The car does come with the coveted Type R bookpack and manuals but that’s it. The mileage is backed up by the MOT history. Probably some could be chased up through Honda UK or local dealers or writing to the previous owners??

Lastly I never received the V5C. I moved not long after buying the car and have since moved again. I only realised this as I went through the cars paperwork while writing this advert. This isn’t a problem as I will give a full receipt for the car and still have the green slip (New keeper Supplement) I was given by the motor trader. This isn’t a big deal and all it means is the new owner will need to fill out a V62 (I have already printed one off) and pay £25 to the DVLA. This is the price for a new V5C in their name and address. I HAVE MY ORIGINAL INVOICE WHEN I BOUGHT IT!

REMEMBER - I AM THE OWNER. NOT ALL OWNERS ARE THE REGSITERED KEEPERS... A LOT OF CLASSIC CARS ARE OWNED AS INVESTMENTS BUT NOT REGISTERED AS THEAT ADDS TO THE LOG BOOK HISTORY... PLEASE BUY WITH CONFIDENCE - YOU WILL REALISE WHEN YOU MEET ME I AM 100% GEUINE AND THIS IS A GENUINE SALE....

If however, Someone doesn’t want to do this or is uncomfortable for whatever reason I am happy to fill out the V62 myself and get the new V5C in my name and address. This could take a couple of weeks (or longer) to come back and it will add me as another registered keeper (remember the registered keeper isn’t necessarily owner – this car is 100% mine and I am the owner). So the car will then be 4 previous owners on the V5C and not 3. I will then add the new owner and it will be 5. For this reason, I will ask for a non refundable £500 deposit in the event that the buyer changes their mind while we are waiting for the new V5C to come back.
