Description
Welcome to the advert for this very stylish and much cherished 1964 Rover P4 110 with only 3 previous owners and covering 128900 miles from New. This 110 is the top of the range of the P4 models as it is fitted with the Weslake cylinder head making it the most desirable and achieving the best engine power and performance as well as being fitted with overdrive which operates effortlessly and allows for a smoother driving experience.
This Rover P4 was registered in January 1964 and was bought by its first owner from a Rover dealership called F. W Apperley located in the Wirral. It is very evident that the first owner took great pride in looking after the car as there is a detailed spreadsheet completed by the first owner showing periodic maintenance as well as Rover dealership service history from the early years. The car also comes with a letter and photo of the P4 taken by the first owner and is a splendid part of the history. The first owner sold the car after a 28 year ownership in 1992 to its second owner, who was a mechanic at a Rover dealership Who purchased the car for his father. The second owner had owned the P4 for a short period before selling the car to its third owner in 1993 with a mileage of 117542 at this time. The third owner had owned the P4 for a remarkable 31 years. The third owner had used the car for classic car shows in the earlier years of his ownership but had largely remained off The road from around 2009. It was a very reluctant sale for the third owner but after losing dry storage facilities, it forced a sale and after covering less than 500 miles over the past 15 years my son and I purchased the P4 in February 2025.
My son and I have spent almost every day over the past few months bringing the car back to roadworthy condition. It has had a lot of work in a short space of time and we have spent around £3000 in parts alone. I have listed below the main jobs that have been completed…
Braking System - renew brake servo, refurbish master cylinder, replace front calipers, replace front pads and discs, replace rear wheel cylinders, replace all brake flexi hoses, renew brake fluid and lubricate all components.
Interior - fit new carpets , supplied by Coverdale, apply colouring kit and leather feed to seats, replace door rubbers, clean and wax wood trim, fix interior lamps and heater.
Fuel System - replace main jet and metering needle on carburettor, replace fuel tank sender unit and clean fuel system, including filters.
Charging System - Overhaul dynamo and replace regulator box.
Ignition System - replace ignition coil and fit new high-quality points and condenser.
Servicing - renew gearbox oil, renew Engine oil and filter, renew Air filter, check diff oil, oil kingpins and grease components as required.
Welding - replace both front and rear sill/ step on the driver's side. All corrosion was cut out and replaced with new good Quality metal.
Renew inlet and exhaust rocker box cover gaskets and adjust tappets.
Replace anti roll bar rubbers .
Fit isolator switch under bonnet in order to disable the battery when not in use as a safety precaution .
Replace bonnet release cable and free off mechanism.
Plus, much much more.
All parts have been sourced from recognised Rover specialists so are all high quality components.
In addition to the list above the P4 has had a good detail clean inside and has been transformed over the past few months. The paintwork has had good detailed polish. The bonnet boot and roof are the original steel blue colour but unfortunately the sides have been painted and the match is not perfect. This had only become noticeable after polishing, but overall the bodywork is very straight and presentable. I have done some tidying up on the exterior that have been mostly cosmetic such as fitting door mirrors and repaint Number plates. The bonnet has been removed to allow for a detailed clean under the engine bay which has cleaned up really well with some parts removed for painting.
Overall, this Rover P4 110 is in very good condition for its age and always has plenty of admirers when on the road. The engine runs very smoothly and drives really well, it sounds really well and is fitted with a stainless steel exhaust. The original valve radio still works well after a short warm up period.
The car is now ready for its next owner and it can be used and improved over time. We have not restored this car to new condition but we have spent considerable time and money bringing this piece of motoring history back to usable condition and it certainly would not embarrass itself on any show ground . There are still a few minor jobs that can be completed to take it to the next level, such as : repair time clock, paint work can be improved in some areas, although the tyres are serviceable with plenty of tread they are 20 plus years old.
