Reluctantly for sale is my 1965 Land Rover Searle Safari Sleeper which I have owned since 2010. Based on a C suffix series 2a 88" Station Wagon and was converted by Searle in Sunbury on Thames, at the time it was an approved Land Rover conversion (unlike it's bigger brother, the bigger Carawagon which wasn't).
The rear seats fold down, along with the front seats to form a bed, the seat bulkhead has been modified to allow this to happen. Allegedly sleeps two, however I have only used it for myself and the dog and that was cosy enough! Extra bits and pieces that this has had are factory fitted dual split charging alternator, water can holders at the front along with a toolbox, Auto Fairey free wheeling hubs, 2 x 1 gallon oil can storage, spares toolbox under the bonnet, electronic ignition points, middle under seat tool tray, dual ammeters, water temp / oil pressure combi gauge, map reading table, map reading light, dormobile storage cabinet, cooker on rear door, blinds all around, rear pack away awning, military style mirror hinges, inertia seat belts, galvanised radiator panel, halogen headlights, rear spot light, hazard warning lights and overdrive.
Good points, it drives and stops well, it has a lot of period accessories and has been kept pretty much as is. There are very few Searle Safari's about and even less still with the fittings and as many accessories as this one. I can only imagine that this will go up in value.
Bad points: Just noticed a hole in the drivers footwell, bulkhead could do with a repair, blinds need attention and the door card has just fallen off and requires fitting.
I also have a Mini Carawagon project available for sale.
Unfortunately I have not really used it for the last 5 years and several other Land Rovers means that I must face the reality and downsize my fleet. Very rare conversion with not many still being around, has a host of period extras that make this a one of a kind vehicle.
