Description
This 1972 Datsun 240z was commissioned back in 2000 and underwent a full restoration. Then finished vehicle was then returned in 2001 to the customer.
The L24 was removed and an L28 was sourced for this build. The engine was recommissioned to start with, then it went down the fast road route. This l28 was then partnered with triple webers, twin cable throttle set up, a high lift camshaft and a janspeed 6 to 1 manifold and exhaust. The 240z has been on the dyno and achieved 190bhp.
The car was then sold by the old owner, back in 2014 via Silverstone auctions. It was a dream car for the new owner so they wished for the car completed to their spec. The car was then brought to us here at Fourways Engineering back in 2016 with the vision of creating their dream car.
The engine was removed and all ancillaries, along with all glass and other exterior parts, the car was then sent away to be shot blasted. On return the engine bay was inspected and all repairs were carried out. The body was rubbed down and prepped. It was then finished in Porsche tahoe blue.
This Datsun 240z is a great example of a resto mod. If you want the looks of a 1970s sports car but with the newer modern comforts, look no further. This Z has it all. The car is fitted with a EZ electric power steering unit, making for light steering. A substantial upgrade from the heavy mechanical steering. The suspension was upgraded to BC coilovers, at the time of this upgrade the suspension components were removed and sent off to be powder coated. On the reassembly all the new bushes were installed.
A retro radio has also been installed, making sure to keep that famous 70s aesthetic. This has been partnered with a sound system upgrade, a bespoke speaker box from us at Fourways fitted up with 6×9 speakers. Along with an electrical aerial.
It has electric front windows, the switches have been installed in the centre console of the 240z. The doorcards have been retrimmed and had the old window winder blanked out to keep the resto mod look. Heated seats have also been implemented into the original seats of the 240z. The heating elements were installed as a kit and then re trimmed in black leather.
Aswell as having the tuned L28 engine making 190bhp the 240z also has a R200 differential with a Quaife QDF71. A mishimoto radiator upgrade with two electronic fans which are thermo controlled.
The substantial power upgrade meant for more stopping power. The front brakes were converted to vented front discs with 4 pot callipers. The rears have also been changed to discs and callipers rather the original drum brakes. To finish this off the 240z has period correct 7j x 14 wolf race wheels.
A folder full of history which has been documented very well is present with the vehicle. Receipts can be found as well as previous MOTs. Photos from its restorations are also in the folder which is great for the cars history. Tens of thousands have been spent on this car over the years and the paperwork backs this.
The car has been sat in dry storage for the last 3 years before coming back to us at Fourways to be recommissioned + sold.
