Description
1972 Datsun 240Z – UK RHD
First registered: 4th May 1972
Ex-Barrie "Wizzo" Williams | Samuri-spec, Fast Road Build
We’re pleased to once again offer this UK-market, right-hand drive Datsun 240Z—a car previously handled by us and with a known and engaging history. It last sold almost by chance during a casual catch-up call with a long-standing client. The moment he noticed the signature of his late friend, the legendary Barrie “Wizzo” Williams, on the glovebox, he agreed to purchase the car without hesitation.
As one of the final cars added to his collection, and now offered for sale as part of a careful rationalisation, it’s a privilege to see the car return.
This Datsun 240Z is believed to have been a personal road car during the later stages of his career. It was uprated under his ownership by specialist Dave Jarman to fast-road Samuri specification—an homage to the legendary Spike Anderson-built cars of the 1970s. The engine delivers approximately 180 bhp and features:
• Gas-flowed cylinder head
• Uprated camshafts with direct oil feed to lobes
• Lightweight clutch and flywheel
• Janspeed exhaust manifold and full stainless-steel exhaust system
• 260Z electronic distributor
The result is a rewarding six-cylinder driving experience, suited to spirited B-road drives or long-distance tours.
Condition and History
In the mid-1990s, the car underwent a comprehensive strip-down and repaint, including the resealing of all underbody panels. Since then, it has covered only 26, 000 miles. The overall condition is excellent, supported by a well-documented history file including period photographs of the restoration and upgrade work.
UK-supplied 240Zs are rare enough; fewer still have known provenance, correct upgrades, and a genuine link to such an iconic name in British motorsport.
Provenance: Ex-Barrie "Wizzo" Williams
Wizzo was one of British motorsport’s most charismatic and enduring figures. A professional driver with a career spanning rallying, touring cars, and historic racing, he was best known for his 1964 win in the Motoring News Rally Championship, his exploits in the British Saloon Car Championship, and his later appearances at Goodwood and VSCC events. He was just as loved for his warmth and humour as for his talent behind the wheel.
