Description

ODOMETER NOT WORKING. Please do read the full ad.

Number of former keepers: 5.

This car is in great condition for it's age. It is obviously an old car, so comes with its age related imperfections (wouldn't call it a showroom example) but the body work is straight, and paintwork is quite impressive considering. It also comes with a WEDGE of history, dating back to what I can only presume is it's first service, all invoices for work carried out on it, and all MOT certificates. Over it's last few thousand miles, it's had a decent amount spent on it. The car has been SORN since August 2024. Runs and starts.

In my ownership since the end of 2023, I've spent around £1250 on it, but haven't had much chance to drive it. The car is located in Moreton on the Wirral, but I live in Portsmouth. Long story short, it was a good deal and happened to be for sale at a garage around the corner from my Dad's, so I couldn't resist buying it (I've always wanted a Porsche). It sat on a drive under a cover for a couple of months after purchasing, which led to a fuel system issue. This was rectified end of 2023 with a £1000+ invoice. This covered diagnosing and sorting an issue with the fuel distributor. We also fitted a new fuel pump for good measure.

THE BAD:
Bit of a dodgy wing mirror. It has come loose and is being held on with some tape. Something I would do if I kept the car.

Tear in driver's seat (photographed).

Cracked dash (very common on these cars).

ODOMETER PACKED IN AROUND 2021/ 22. I was told that the previous owner had the car sitting on a drive for the past few years. I have no reason to believe this isn't true, but after having the fuel issues sorted, I realised that the odometer has packed in. You can see this by looking back at previous MOT records. In my ownership, the car has done no more than 100 miles (I genuinely think it's more like 50, which is shameful). Based on previous invoices/ records, I can only guess that the previous owner would have put a maximum of a couple of thousand miles on it since it packed in. The last invoice I have of a different mileage is 05/ 2021, where it read 91591. Taking into consideration that this was also the start of our lockdown, I highly doubt a lot of mileage was put on this car, unless they did some out-of-character driving. THAT BEING SAID, THIS IS PURELY SPECULATION.

A few notable bits of work carried out more recently:

2024:
£1000+ spent on sorting fuel system issue, including fitting a new fuel pump.
New battery fitted.
Part service done. Still have oil filter, and correct oil and coolant ready to be used if wanted.

2021:
Rear brake shoes and cylinders replaced.
Gearbox oil change.

2020:
4 new Falken tyres.

2018:
New clutch assembly £700+ invoice.

2017:
Machine polished and waxed.

2014:
At 88, 472, water pump, cam belt drive belt and OSR wheel bearing done.

2012:
~88, 000 new fuel pump relay.

Any questions, please do ask! I have done my best to photograph as much of the car as possible. If you need any specific photographs, do get in touch. ThanksThe history of this car speaks for itself. It is truly a joy to flick through the countless pages of services and work that have been carried out on this car.

It's a genuinely interesting classic. I imagine whoever is reading this already knows a lot about these cars. The production of the 924 arguably saved Porsche at a time when they were struggling. It offered people a car for the masses, but with a Porsche badge. The engine derives from an Audi van, I believe, but it definitely does not sound like a van!

I was mostly surprised by the view out of the car compared to modern vehicles. I could see every inch of the road! It feels small and nimble, and the engine pulls just right. It really is a joy to drive. I do love the car and just wish I had found more time to enjoy it in my ownership. I hope the next owner gets to enjoy it much more than I did!
