Description
Project RARE BMW E3 2500 AUTO - I purchased this car earlier this year to be my retirement project. An unfortunate accident has aggravated a long-standing back injury and I now require surgery. That has scuppered that idea and I’m not going to be able to undertake a project anytime soon.
Vanishingly rare BMW E3 2500, the original shark nose cruiser.
I bought ‘Ruby’, yes she has a name, because she is solid all over including the underneath, and in my opinion she is the best colour - green. There are a couple of areas that need welding/ repair, bottom drivers door, front valance and a garage prang on the offside front wing before she’s repainted. She has had what I can only describe as an amateur paint job sometime in the past, it looks good from a far but it’s far from good.
All the interior is present, seat covers are crusty and it will need reupholster but all the door cards, sprung side pockets and the obligatory 70’s ashtrays are present. Headlining good. Dash lovely, no cracking, it’s had a radio previously so wiring and speakers present.
All the panel gaps are good, I think it’s had two new front wings, a new bonnet and the rear wheel arches done professionally. Its had a full exhaust fitted and it’s like new. Starts ok, I got as far as a fluids and filters service to move it about. I changed ATF filter, gasket and fluids with correct castrol ATF. It has had reconditioned remote servos fitted before my ownership and a new front caliper, the last owner reported soft pedal and I moved it on the handbrake. There are no apparent hydraulic leaks, new brake hoses come with car. Comes with 2 new rear calipers, I had a refurb quote for the F/ N/ S caliper of £100. I checked the fuel tank and it has pinholes, but an easy POR15 treatment will sort that out.
Importantly all the hard to find/ expensive chrome and trim bits are with the car. The light grills, side chrome, bonnet chrome, rear light panel and interior trims all present. There are spare pads, light fitting, gaskets etc with the car.
I’ve priced this for the money I have in it, please don’t come to kick the tyres and haggle as I’ve done it for you. Others on here start a £11k, the last painted/ finished one sold at auction recently for £26, 900 + auction commission that’s around £30k. But for my accident I’d be stripping this ready for respray. The car is way too good for parting out but in donor parts it’s worth more than I’m asking. I viewed E3’s that had more holes than bodywork before I found Ruby, don’t miss out. Please ring me to discuss if you’re genuinely interested, car in Stalybridge, I’m not averse to classic px but I can’t take a project. After endless questions I will accept a realistic offer for the car however I have no interest in selling parts off the vehicle. Rare, rock solid project. The best colour with the beautiful 2500cc BMW engine that lasts forever. If you’ve ever wanted a ‘shark nose’ then this is your baby. All of the difficult hard to find parts are with this car. I’m gutted that my accident means I’m not going to be able to complete. Contact me for a viewing or with any questions, cash or bank transfer before car moved. The car is in Stalybridge and will need trailer to move. I've only marked ‘imported’ because it says so on log book, I have no history of it being used abroad and its a RHD and it hasn’t been converted. There is a folder full of receipts/ mot’s that show money lavished on this car in the UK.
Own this 70’s BMW classic without having to buy shares in a welding company.
