Description
1971 VW T2 Bay window, she was manufactured in Australia in 1971 and spent her life there until imported by the previous owner in 2020. The van had a back to metal rebuild in Australia in 2019. No expense was spared, fully rebuilt 1641 long block engine, new fuel tank, complete respray and new interior, headlining, the van also had a 1978 gearbox fitted which means it can sit happily on the motorway. A hook up and leisure battery with power inside the van, electronic ignition, fire suppression system, LED headlights so you can actually see at night and a Vintage Speed exhaust. There's really is too much to list. I have picture and invoice evidence for the work that was carried out in Australia.
I took ownership in August 2021 and had some additional engine mods done and had her slammed with a narrow beam fitted by Midland Early Bay who are renowned in the French Slammer scene. To finish her off we then added the Porsche Fuchs wheels running 45s on the front to give her a nice stance. Whilst in my ownership the van has covered very few miles but has always been started regularly and short runs to ensure that everything is working as it should. She is always kept under shelter and wrapped up in a fully breathable cover for the winter. She is an absolute head turner and always makes people smile. It is with a heavy heart that I have to let her go to fund another project. She will need to go to a very good home and is just waiting to be shown off for the summer.
No time wasters or dreamers please!, you will really struggle to find a clean tastefully done early bay like this. I should know as I spent 18 months looking at absolute sheds and mis advertised vans before I found this one. Really happy to answer any questions. Any inspection very welcome.
These vans are really now a sound investment.
Not so good bits
The only marks on the van I have pictured which are 2 very minor spots of rust which can easily be addressed and then there is a small dent and scrape on the front of the roof that happened when the van was shipped, you can just see it in the main first picture. It is hardly noticeable and has not spoiled the pure enjoyment that the van has given us.
The Western Motors sticker in the back window is apparently very sort after. The previous owner had offers to buy the window complete just for the sticker. The front bay window also has a Volkswagen Club of Western Australia sticker thats shows provenance.
