I’m selling our 1990 Eunos Roadster – the Japanese import version of the Mk1 Mazda MX-5 – and honestly, it’s one of the most enjoyable cars I’ve ever driven. The original NA is all about simplicity, lightness, and that feeling you get when everything just clicks on a backroad. This one loves to cruise down a twisty road, making you feel relaxed immediately.
It’s a genuine low-mileage example, just over 49k miles (73k KMs) from new, and it shows. The car is completely rust-free with all the original Mazda factory spot welds still visible on the sills and arches. The paintwork is in fantastic condition and all-original. It’s never been welded, never needed any repairs, and it’s always been dry-stored properly, which is why the paint is still in such great condition. I’ve taken good care of it, and the previous owner clearly did too.
Mechanically, it’s in top shape. The water pump and cambelt were recently replaced, and it’s just had a full engine service. Thanks to its new battery, it's always fires up reliably. The handling is on point and sharp thanks to new shocks & springs, and great tyres with lots of tread to give. There’s plenty of paperwork to go with it, and it’s MOT’d through to March 2026 with no advisories bar a recommendation to keep an eye on the brake discs - an easy maintenance item. It’s ready to be driven and enjoyed right away – nothing needed, no niggles, no projects, just get in and go.
Aside from one tasteful exhaust upgrade, it’s completely original. The exhaust adds just the right note – a bit sportier, a bit more alive, but still subtle. It still has all the lovely factory details – the original lightweight daisy wheels, the Eunos-specific spec with air con, power steering, fully functional electric windows, and the viscous limited-slip differential.
The interior feels fresh and is genuinely a lovely place to be, with no cracks or squeaks to worry about. The supportive seats & cushiony floor mats are in like-new condition, and there's an aftermarket radio installed. The highlight, however, is the Momo steering wheel — delivering an authentic Mazda sporty driving experience, perfectly positioned and great to hold.
The soft-top is a brand new mohair roof with the heated glass rear screen, so no need to worry about leaks or fogged-up plastic windows. The interior’s clean and well looked-after, and I’ll include the leather tonneau cover too - as it looks lovely for a Sunday cruise.
It's a brilliant little car, and I know how hard it is to find a low mileage unmodified red Eunos without rust. This isn’t your usual rusty, tired example. It’s the kind of car you can keep original and take pride in, or just enjoy as a dependable, characterful classic for years to come.
