Description
Collector's dream. One-off. Time capsule.
For sale is an extremely rare example of the BMW E36 range:
A BMW 318i special edition “Paul Klee”, variant 8, first registered in 1997 through the BMW branch Voos in Solingen – sold to the first and only owner (Frank G., born 1951).
- Only one entry in the vehicle registration document (1997–2022)
Mileage: 77, 780 km, traceable and verifiable
- Accident-free, in original factory paint (not repainted, minor scratches on the front bumper, and a small dent in the bonnet - photos attached)
- Complete service history with full documentation
Condition & history:
The vehicle has been used since purchase as a garage and secondary car and is in nearly new original condition. It is a non-smoker vehicle, although the optional smoker’s package is fitted – which visually is advantageous, as the wood trim of the ashtrays enhances the interior.
• Interior & seats: Very well maintained, hardly any signs of use
• Paint: Original BMW factory lacquer, no repainting
• Technology: Mileage appropriate, no backlog of repairs
• On-board tools complete & untouched
Documents & accessories:
The car comes with an extensive document folder that leaves little to be desired:
• Original new-car invoice (approx. DM 70, 000)
• EC type-approval certificate (CoC)
• TÜV reports & invoices
• Service booklet & owner’s manual complete & like new
• Original radio including code card
• All four car keys present
• First fuel receipt from 1997 – a nice detail for enthusiasts
Naturally, the E36 is rust-free and unwelded – an absolute rarity for cars of this generation.
The “Paul Klee” edition ranks among the rarest special editions of the E36.
The exact production number of Paul Klee edition variant 8 is not clearly documented.
According to various sources on the internet, around 457 produced copies are claimed – other research mentions as few as about 100 units.
Whether BMW ever officially confirmed these figures, or to what extent, cannot be clearly established according to current knowledge.
However one thing is clear: vehicles of this variant – especially in this colour combination, with original interior and documented history – have become extremely rare today.
This special edition was designed exclusively for the German market and featured exclusive equipment packages.
With rare interior “Graphik II” – a highlight for connoisseurs
The interior of this Paul Klee special edition impresses with a combination that was configured in only a handful of E36s – and today scarcely exists in comparable original condition.
The heart of it: the carpet graphic or floor coverings and floor mats in Soft Velour II Graphik grey, colour no. 7370
• This specific graphic was theoretically orderable under the BMW Individual Programme – practically, however, it was almost exclusively installed in the Paul Klee Special Edition Variant 8.
• The preservation state is outstanding: not faded, not worn through or replaced – the carpet appears almost as in the delivery condition.
• For many collectors, this carpet is the most important recognisable feature of the model – and at the same time a detail that on the market is increasingly rarely found fully original.
The interior is complemented by the elegant two-tone full leather upholstery in Nappa grey/ Santorini blue (Z1XX), birch-anthracite wood inlays, grey door trims, and the rare dark grey fully automatic roof – a colour combination that was found in only a few built examples.
This vehicle offers not only a piece of BMW Individuality – but a coherent, original and extremely rare interior concept that still impresses every enthusiast and collector.
An E36 in this configuration, with this history and collector-worthy original condition, is hardly found anymore.
Ideal for collectors, BMW enthusiasts or lovers of well-preserved classic cars with traceable provenance.
