Description
Volvo 340 1. 7 GL – ~75, 000 miles
Bought in March 2023
A great example of a classic Volvo 340, showing just under 75k miles. The car is in very good condition overall, with a lot of work already carried out during my ownership (detailed below). Please check the photos for a better idea of the condition – and I’m happy to provide more pictures or videos on request.
Work carried out during my ownership:
Bonnet, rear wings, rear end and roof professionally repainted
Recored original radiator
New clutch (NOS – slight idle noise still present)
New poly engine mounts
New fuel pump & filter
New breather pipes around fuel tank
New pipes around carburettor
New rear valance
Rocker cover sandblasted & refitted with new gasket
Oil change and new spark plugs within last year
New window trims (originals included; current ones need door card off to secure properly)
New gutter trim
Things to be aware of:
Windscreen chip (professionally sealed)
Radio currently not working
Passenger door lock not functioning (replacement handle fitted for MOT; original handle included and can be repaired/ swapped)
Front wings need attention (next planned job, along with respraying spare doors)
Original carburettor was fully refurbished but too warped to use; car is currently running on a reliable replacement carb (fitted 18 months ago)
Spares included:
Prop shaft
Set of steel wheels (ideal for restoration)
Set of 4 spare doors (sound but will need respray)
Timing belt
Various other spare parts
This is a solid, well-looked-after classic that’s had a lot of time and money spent on it already, with only a few jobs left for the next owner to finish off.
Viewings highly recommended. I bought this Volvo out of pure nostalgia. Growing up in the 90s, both my dad and grandad owned 340s, and I always loved them. The first time I opened the door on this one, the familiar smell instantly took me back – just as I remembered.
To document the journey and all the work I’ve done, I started an Instagram page dedicated to the car: @volvo340gl. Feel free to have a look through – it shows the progress and care that’s gone into keeping this classic alive.
