Purchased by me in Feb 2020 from the son of an elderly couple who had owned it for several years to occasionally take his disabled father out. Quality conversion by acclaimed specialists Brotherwood.
My wife needed a spacious vehicle to carry plants and pressed flowers for local farmers’ markets and we were fed up of looking at thrashed and abused vans. We felt most likely a disability conversion would not have been thrashed!
I needed it to be reliable for my wife and thus it has been ‘over’ serviced, spending more than twice the vehicle's value doing both preventative and scheduled maintenance. Over £5500 spent in the last 5 years (detail below).
New clutch fitted in January (done 2k miles only). Timing belt not required until 2030, and next service not due for 10k miles. Note that the correct TOTAL engine oil and oil filter used each service. Has a matching set of Kuhmo EcoWing tyres – including two fronts just fitted 20 miles ago.
Low mileage, averaging only 6k miles per annum.
It is well-equipped with electric windows, remote central locking, power steering, very effective air conditioning, etc. Both keys and books present. Upgrades include: heated seats, Kenwood DAB radio/ cd player with USB and Bluetooth for (hands free) phone and music. Stebel Nautilus air horn.
The folding ramp and lowered floor is a real asset for ease of loading. I’ve seen people use them for large dogs too! It is easy to configure for your desired use – the third seat is simply held in by four bolts, and the various belts are all present if wishing to secure a wheelchair.
There were a couple of ‘advises’ on the last MoT: sticky brake caliper (now replaced), cracked centre exhaust clamp, apparent oil leak …note the vehicle uses no oil between services, nor drips on the floor…but the tester mentioned oil present on the engine .. it is 18 years old, inevitably there’s some! And a couple of ‘quirks’: The EGR is blanked off (a common mod which stops rubbish being recirculated back into the engine – they run much better like this), easy to remove if preferred, it gives ‘eco mod’ on the dash on start-up (but just to be clear no alarm lights). Another common fault on these is the central clock intermittently partially illuminates – this one is usually OK, but sometimes suffers (I just look at the radio clock). If left for a period there is sometimes a little blue smoke on start up (only). It does not as previously mentioned use any oil between services, and was diagnosed when the clutch was being replaced by a Peugeot specialist as most likely a slightly leaking injector.
The vehicle drives very well for its age, the engine pulls strongly and cleanly, the gearchange is smooth with the new clutch. It is economical, with an easy 45mpg in normal use.... and more on a run.
Condition wise (see photos) there are only a few minor age-related marks, consistent with it being very well treated over the years.
Only selling since a worsening ankle problem means an automatic needed.
Priced very fairly - we were offered £2250 p/ ex against an automatic Berlingo (but chose to buy privately), and since selling privately I decided to add the new tyres for the next owner. Maintenance summary during my ownership:
