The Appeal
The Peugeot 505 GRD Estate is one of the great practical classics: a rugged, diesel-powered workhorse with genuine eight-seat versatility and a level of mechanical simplicity we can only dream of today. The estate variant, with its cavernous load area and robust 2.5-litre inline-four diesel, has earned a devoted following among those who value dependability and usability above all else.
This example has been in the current owner's hands since 2011, having been purchased in Jersey where it reportedly spent most of its life. It has been garaged every winter and used extensively in France during the summer months. No modernisation has been carried out; the car remains in its original specification. The vendor, who has owned several 505s, states that this is the best of the lot.
The bodywork shows a few marks and a couple of small rust spots, while rust on the underside of the rear doors has reportedly been cut out and welded. The underside of the vehicle is reported to be free from corrosion. Inside, the vendor describes the condition as average to good, with all instruments working and the seats in good order. With its MOT valid until March 2027 and a long history of conscientious care, this 505 GRD Estate is well placed as a usable, honest classic.
