Description
Wood and Picket Mini
“Barn Find” Not quite but same as! I put this car away in the garage in 1989 because of gearbox fault with only 42898 miles on the clock, with every intention of repairing. However work and life in general took over as a result it remained untouched until now!
This is a very rare 1981 Mk2 998cc Automatic Mini, with a Wood and Picket Opera window conversion including full leather interior with Recaro front seats, electric windows, fully de-seamed body, Woolfrace slot alloy wheels, sunroof, fully instrumented W&P dashboard. Tinted window, Sunstripe tinted windscreen, centre consul etc etc.
Having been garage stored for over 35 years the car is in good condition and has never been welded. Subframes are original and good floors and sills all solid and original. There is some corrosion on areas of the body as can be seen in the pictures. The interior is all in good condition with no tears in the leather.
The car is a project and will require complete restoration but having a solid shell and every original part in place it is a straight forward restoration and will have the added value of being a completely original car. it is not your usual rusty mini basket case.
The pictures show the car before and after we cleaned off 35 years of dust. Other pictures show period pictures of this conversion and this car having just avoided being crushed by a tree in the Great Storm of 1987.
The Opera conversion is a very rare conversion by Wood and Picket and was their most expensive conversion. Their conversions being very popular with pop stars and celebrities at the time. There are advanced plans to produce a new W&P Mini which will add value to original cars.
The asking price is £10k that reflects the condition of the car after restoration the value will be £30-35k.
