Description

Owned since 2008 and always garaged.
• Replacement Kenlowe radiator cooling fan currently working from original non-adjustable otter switch controller in the radiator.
• The car was fitted with a stainless steel exhaust when I bought it and a stainless flexible section since added to reduce the engine movement stress on the system.
• Replacement stainless steel fuel tank.
• Turbo professionally rebuilt and known inlet manifold internal web cracking ground out.
• The suspension, which was excessively rusty from advisories at MOT, has been rebuilt front and rear by a professional technician. At the rear new, superior quality GAZ spring damper units have simply been fitted to replace the originals. The front suspension has been completely rebuilt using mostly new parts such as new upper wishbones, improved strength and quality over the original Reliant component but to the same design, based on new General Motors Chevette wishbones that link to the existing, remotely operated superior quality inboard Gaz Shock absorbers fitted by the previous owner to replace the original units. Replacement second hand but quality and condition checked uprights and hubs from a General Motors Chevette were then fitted between the upper and lower wishbones replacing the Reliant uprights and hubs which were themselves based on the Chevette design but use now rare and expensive wheel bearings compared with the more readily available Chevette bearings. The existing strengthened lower wishbones were reused following checks to confirm their condition along with new, old stock Reliant Front springs. Finally all new front brake discs, callipers, brake pads and longer hoses were fitted. The discs are now ventilated type from a Vauxhall Carlton, the callipers from a Volvo 240/ 260, pads from a Scimitar GTE and longer hoses from a Mark 1 Ford Escort. Finally tracking and four wheel alignment checks/ adjustments were made. The braking performance and reliability has been improved by these changes. All of these changes described above are recognised by the Reliant Scimitar and Sabre Owners Club and can be found on their website.
• Period leather Momo steering wheel in my ownership.
• Replacement mohair hood in my ownership.
• Rollover bar fitted which was on the car when I bought it.
• Original fitment, believed BBS manufacture, 14 inch alloy wheels replaced by Team Dynamics manufacture Jet 15 inch alloy wheels fitted with suitably dimensioned 195/ 50/ 15 VR tyres. 5mm spacers are used for the front wheels. Original wheels and tyres available.
• Kenwood CD/ Radio unit already fitted when I bought the car but now replaced by a more modern unit.
• Original sealed beam headlights replaced with halogen type.
• Car is fitted with a suitable Selca IM3. 22 Immobiliser.
• There is a body-coloured hardtop for the car but not used in my ownership. RSSOC Small Sports Registrar has suggested that this car, No. 40, is the last SST Reliant produced before moving the model on to become the Scimitar Sabre. So a rare car that is a pocket rocket with great handling. Only being sold because age has caught up with me with too many cars to look after and it is now not being used enough.
