TRIUMPH DOLOMITE SPRINT 1977
The car offered in its classic Carmine Red is a vehicle with original plates and documents, double keys, user and maintenance booklet, dating from 1977, which in 2009 was acquired by an avid collector, member of the Dolomite Sprint Italia Club, who oversaw a radical restoration, respecting the original configuration and obtaining ASI Targa Oro homologation. Unfortunately having passed away, it was acquired by us, couriered/ processed, prepared and aesthetically cared for by our workshop and now ready for new adventures. It will be delivered with brand new tires and periodic inspection completed. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Dolomite Sprint stood out from the outset for the vinyl roof, alloy wheels, and the front spoiler. The virtue lay beneath the bonnet: the Sprint engine was the first 16-valve engine to be fitted to a production car. The block would later be the one used in the TR7. The 16V head is alloy and has a single camshaft driven by a chain, an ingenious feature, a true engineering masterpiece: Lewis Dawtrey arranged to actuate all 16 valves using only 8 cams, the inlet valves are driven directly by cup tappets and the exhaust valves driven by rockers. To compensate the 127 horsepower of the Sprint, the gearbox from the Stag 2000 family was fitted with the transmission unit taken from the TR6 and obviously the brakes were upgraded as well. The overdrive operates on the third and fourth gears and is electrically controlled by a switch mounted on the knob of the gear lever. This instrument is very useful as it mainly saves fuel. Well finished with velour, carpeting and burr walnut, it is certainly not a banal object and with interesting performance. Original plates and documents, double keys, user and maintenance booklet, ASI Targa Oro homologated
