A rare opportunity to own a genuine UK-new RHD Series 2 that sits nicely between the higher cost of a fully restored example and the potential money-pit of a basket-case!
Registered in Bristol on 06/ 09/ 73.
In August 1993 it was purchased by a well known Lancia enthusiast in northern England who I believe was the President of the Owners Club for a while.
Unfortunately, after owning the car for 25 years he became ill and passed away in 2018.
His wife asked a friend of his, another Lancia enthusiast, whether he was interested in purchasing the vehicle and also a Zagato that he'd owned. He was more interested in the Zagato but she was adamant that he took both cars which he ended up doing. Zagato’s are his focus hence his plan was to concentrate on that first. However, he also had other projects he was working on and realised that he’d taken on too much.
I've always loved the Coupe and when I found out he was selling it I thought it looked like a great opportunity. However, my heart overtook my head and I ended up purchasing the car on a bit of a whim 2 weeks before we moved into a new house........ which we were intending to renovate!
Unfortunately, reality has meant that all my spare time has been (and continues to be) spent working on the house plus my work has got significantly busier this year. Because of this, whilst I’ve completed a few jobs on it my focus has dwindled. It now just seems silly to have it sitting in the garage doing nothing and I would prefer someone to use and enjoy it.
- The car is very solid. I cannot find any rust anywhere apart from the normal surface rust on suspension/ brake parts etc. There are a few blisters on the rear offside lower panel (see pic) but they don’t appear to have got any worse for several years.
- The engine and gearbox appear to be perfect. I’ve started it a few times, it sounds good (even with filthy carbs and old fuel) and there was no smoke visible from the exhaust. The oil looks brand new and the coolant is crystal clear.
- The paint is fine there are a couple of marks but nothing of concern. However, it isn’t a particularly good paint job. There is a bit of orange peel and overspray on the window rubbers, but I’m sure it could be corrected which I was going to get done.
- The driver’s door latch sticks a bit.
- It looks like a bit of filler has been used in a couple of places.
What’s been done:
- The front brake callipers have been rebuilt including new pistons.
- Master cylinder rebuilt.
- New front brake pipes/ lines.
- The carbs have been vapour-blasted, rebuilt and are ready to be refitted.
- New spark plugs, points and condenser.
- New fuel pump.
- New clutch.
- New air filter.
What needs doing:
- Brakes need to be bled (I started but don’t have the equipment to do it properly).
- Carbs need refitting.
- Old fuel needs draining and replacing (not much in there).
- Drivers side inner CV boot needs replacing.
- Bonnet scoop trim needs refitting.
- Sort out the sticking door latch.
What I liked about it:
- It had been owned by the same person for 25 years who was heavily involved in the Lancia car club. I therefore assumed it would have been very well maintained and hence shouldn’t throw up too many surprises!
- Despite being a historic vehicle, the owner continued to have the car MOT’d each year. Any advisories were fairly basic which supports the above theory.
- The person I bought it off was also a Fulvia fanatic and knew what he was talking about.
- Genuine UK RHD car.
- It’s a good car, very solid with no obvious rust.
- I love the colour combo!
- Minimal outlay to get it on the road.
Happy to discuss a price that is fair to both parties.
I have a video of it running when I bought it which I can send.
