For sale is my beautiful 1977 MG Midget 1500 RHD with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, matching numbers (original engine), and fresh TÜV/ MOT valid until September 2027. The car is fully registered with a historic license plate (H registration) and is ready to drive immediately. It is nicely run-in and performs very well. As a “Staff Sale” car from the Abingdon factory, it is considered to have been particularly solidly built. While in Germany this Midget is quiet a rarity, in England it is regarded as a true classic.
I brought it over from Canterbury to the Rhinelands in June, of course with customs clearance, and restored it until the end of August. The engine has been fully adjusted. The twin SU carburettors have new air filters and have been resynchronized, new spark plugs and leads were fitted, and the distributor condenser replaced. The valve clearance was set – the Midget now runs smoothly, lively, and reliably with good oil pressure. Both clutch master and slave cylinders are new, the braking system has been partly renewed, and both systems freshly bled. The electrics are fully functional: many cables have been newly laid according to the original British colour code, several dashboard switches replaced, and a new horn system installed.
The Midget has been completely repainted in its original red, as confirmed by the Heritage Certificate. The paintwork is in very good overall condition.
The underbody, structural elements, and suspension are rust-free, freshly sealed, and in excellent condition. Cavity sealing has also just been carried out. Both engine bay and boot are freshly detailed and look superb.
The interior retains the original seats, soft top, tonneau cover, and door panels, all refurbished in keeping with originality, complemented by new carpets with thick insulation and new sun visors. The soft top fits perfectly, has not “shrunk,” and can be erected within moments in case of rain. The dashboard still features the original Smiths instruments, complemented by three useful additional gauges, neatly integrated into a custom panel I designed for this purpose (see photos). Also fitted are a new passenger reading light and a cigarette lighter socket for modern convenience (charging, etc.). All new and restored electrical connections are properly organised in a new fuse box. Headlights and horns are new, the horns have a strong, rich sound.
The original Rostyle wheels have been fully refurbished to near-new condition, the tyre tread is still good. A second set of original Rostyle wheels and a spare wheel, also refurbished, are included.
The Midget passed its TÜV (the real and hard one) inspection on September 1, 2025, without any defects listed. It has also been approved for the historic (H) registration, meeting all relevant requirements.

Rescuing such a charming Midget and giving it many more decades of life has given me great joy. However, due to lack of space, it must now give way to a new project. Meanwhile I drive and enjoy it regularly until it leaves me…
Get in, drive off, and enjoy – a small right-hand-drive classic, a British legend that appeals equally to heart and mind. With 66 hp and a weight of only 770 kg, it is surprisingly lively.
