First registered on August 5th, 1992, this Volvo 940 in Atlantic Blue had one previous owner before being bought by the family in the autumn of 1998. When the family acquired a new car in 2010, the Volvo was declared off the road and then resided on a driveway in suburban Glasgow.
Given the long-term family ownership of the car, it was hoped to get the Volvo running again, but the car requires someone with the time and experience to re-condition it themselves or take as a spares car for other projects.
The vehicle visibly appears to be in good condition, but it will require some welding, new brakes, new suspension, and new tyres, with other work likely to be identified as work progresses. There is also a dent on the bonnet and a small section of rust near the grill.
The interior of the car is also in good condition, especially given its age, mileage, and how long it has not moved. There is no evidence of damp or leaks.
If made roadworthy again, the Volvo would require an M. O. T. as it does not yet qualify for historical status, but it is low-emission zone exempt in Scotland.
The brakes have been released as much as possible, but there is still some resistance, so the car would likely need winched onto a trailer. Since the photographs were taken, the car has been rotated to make for easier winching from the front of the car and the tyres re-inflated. A full start of the engine has not been attempted, but the engine does turn over on its starter.
We would be very happy to see this car go to a new home where it can be lovingly restored or used for other projects. For this project and ownership of a near-classic, we feel a figure of £600 is appropriate and also reflects the remedial work done on the brakes and for the new battery included with the car. We are, of course, very happy to negotiate with anyone interested, and a local towing service can be provided on request.
