Description
For sale - 2003 Mercedes E200 (S211) estate, Elegance, Automatic. Freshly serviced, MOT'd until August 2026.
With only three owners from new and having a full and extensive service history, this Mercedes S211 presents very well. The bodywork polishes to a deep shine and the interior presents tidy, free of defects and even retains the original Mercedes scent. Mechanically the engine is smooth and quiet, and the gearbox is refined and seamless.
In recent years, this S211 has benefited from:
- Gearbox oil change and sump replacement.
- Rear air suspension overhaul with replacement of all components (ride height sensors, air springs, compressor etc).
- A full set of recent Goodyear tyres.
- Numerous ball joints.
- Overhaul of the brake system including disks/ pads/ sensors and a check of the brake pump (found to be in good order).
This is in addition to a folder full of invoices and service stamps for regular and preventative maintenance by the previous owners.
In terms of future works the next owner may wish to undertake:
- The tailgate struts are lazy, however, I have bought replacement struts and endeavour to fit this prior to sale.
- The driver's door mirror has discoloured (a common failure of the electrochromic fluid). The mirror is still clear as the colour is even, so, I have not opted to replace this but a future owner may have preference to do so.
- The bodywork is very clean and rust free, largely thanks to preventative maintenance through undercoating etc. That said, a small (10p sized) section of rust bubbling is beginning to form on the driver's rear arch.
- There is a superficial scrape to the front/ passenger corner and, it seems, the wing. Both of which have had touch up paint to attempt a repair. The new owner may wish to have the wing painted, although, given the cars age I don't believe this to be a priority item and it certainly is not unsightly on a car this age.
The car wears its 22 years of age very well and is an honest, tidy example. The above proposed works are a suggestion to make it perfect but to be honest, I think all but the tailgate struts can be left for another day.
One may think, with a small 1. 8 litre displacement in a large body style, that the performance would be left wanting - alas not so. The engine is responsive, and the gears well-spaced, meaning acceleration matches modern traffic.
But it is still a 1. 8 which means it easily returns +38mpg on motorway runs and +23mpg around town. That also makes it cheap to insure (VED being the typical pre 2005 flat rate).
So to conclude, what we have is a clean, well maintained, classic Mercedes estate ready to be a usable daily on family duties or a modern-classic addition to an existing car collection.
Happy to answer any questions and viewings/ test drive are welcome by appointment. For test drives, you * must* bring a valid driver's licence and a printout of your insurance certificate stating coverage for driving other vehicles. Without this, I will be doing the driving until the car has been purchased.
