Description

FOR SALE 1966 LAND ROVER SERIES 2a PETROL 2. 25 88 INCH BASIC. (SENSIBLE OFFERS CONSIDERED)
Unfinished nut and bolt restoration
I purchased this vehicle back in 2014 from a deceased estate sale as a future project with the intention of carrying out a full restoration. I have spent several years and 100's of hours working on this Landy which has been totally stripped and rebuilt. Unfortunately due to personal circumstances I haven't put a spanner on it for a couple of years and I am unable to complete. It has sat in my garage now for approximately 7 years and it needs to go to someone who can complete the project and use the Landy . Basically This vehicle just requires the final reassembly of all of the refinished/ restored parts yet to be fitted. All major work is completed.
A full description of work undertaken on this vehicle is detailed below.
It ran fine but hasn't been run for a couple of years now. I connected a battery a few weeks back and it turned over freely and the oil pressure light extinguished within a few cranks.
A good S2a is now becoming very sort after, this was a very genuine unmolested example with only 2 previous owners when I purchased it. It is a matching numbers vehicle that was basically totally original and I think this genuine vehicle has the potential to be quite sort after following restoration and it was going to be one I would keep.
The vehicle was built 28th March 1966, dispatched from Solihull To Wallace and Sons Limited, Cambridge and then registered with its current Registration plate on the 1st May 1966.
Chassis number 241-26083c
Dark Bronze Green. Limestone Hardtop and Wheels.
It has only had 3 registered keepers, including myself, and I have the V5 currently in my name.
The mileage is 74935 which I believe to be genuine given the overall condition and conversation I had at the time of purchase.
The vehicle was parked up in a barn with a failed clutch at the time and was never moved again for many years until I bought it.
Sadly no history could be located/ provided at the time of purchase due to the fact it was from a deceased estate other than the logbook.
This is a great opportunity to purchase a very nice Landy with all of the major work already completed.
All original and replacement parts to complete this vehicle will be provided with the sale.
I have a folder of receipts for the majority of all the parts purchased during the rebuild and a folder of photos showing the strip and rebuild as it progressed. I am happy to pass on a copy of those to the next owner for reference.
The following information outlines most of the work carried out.
CHASSIS.
This original chassis was totally stripped of all components and then fully shot blasted to reveal any areas of concern / corrosion.
The overall condition was generally very good with the worst area as usual being the rear cross member.
The rear quarter of the chassis was removed forward of the rear spring hangers and a complete new rear quarter chassis fitted/ aligned and seam/ puddle welded into position. The petrol tank outrigger was also replaced and some other minor repairs.
Once the chassis was deemed to be structurally sound it was given two coats of good quality primer followed by two coats Chassis black. It has been WAXOYLED on the top surfaces of the chassis rails and out riggers. New bushes have been fitted at all spring hanger points.
The rear axle was stripped down to all major components.
The axle casing, differential casing, brake back plates and drums were all fully shot blasted back to clean metal. They were then all then under coated and painted black..
The rear differential was cleaned and checked and a new output shaft seal fitted to eliminate leaks. The rear brakes were reassembled with new components and new copper brake pipe and flexible hose. New rear leaf springs were fitted along with all bolts, spring shackles and U bolts, lubricated and reassembled. New rear dampers and new axle retaining straps. New gaskets were fitted where required and the axle was refitted to the chassis.

The front axle was stripped down to all major components.
The axle casing, differential casing, swivel housings, brake back plates, track rod link bar, drag link, drop arms, and drums were all fully shot blasted back to clean metal. They were then all undercoated and painted black.

All bearings removed, cleaned, checked and refitted with fresh grease and all relevant seals and gaskets replaced as necessary. Front half shafts and UJ’S checked for wear and refitted. The swivel housings were then refilled with one shot grease.
The front differential was cleaned and checked and a new output shaft seal fitted to eliminate leaks. The front brakes were reassembled with new components and new copper brake pipe and flexible hoses.
Please see continued in History section... New front leaf springs were fitted including all new spring shackles, nuts, bolts, U bolts. This is not an exhaustive list of work carried out to this vehicle but does give a good overall picture of the effort that has gone into this rebuild. There is a documented photographic history of the rebuild that can be shown to a prospective buyer.
This vehicle will be worth far more when complete than the price i am asking for it. I dread to think what the cost would have been to have all this work carried out by a garage.
Just for information, I was a maintenance Engineer throughout my working life prior to retirement in the automotive industry, including Land Rover Solihull and Land Rovers have been my hobby and passion for over 30 years
A personal viewing of this vehicle is recommended to appreciate the work already done
