Limited edition number 0874 in Imperial Green. 3 former keepers, current owner since 1998, who has averaged less than 1000miles a year during that time. This car has been well maintained throughout its life and has previously had whatever work has been required completed by respected specialists, with a file full of receipts and photographic records kept of any major work. This includes a full engine rebuild in 1996. The current owner then had the chassis comprehensively restored in 2011 by Derek at GM6 in Penzance with all the rust cut out, repaired and treated to prevent reoccurrence. The self-levelling rear shock absorbers have been replaced with fixed rate Bilstein units, the original parts will be supplied with the car along with the original clutch which has also recently been replaced. The turbos were rebuilt with new balanced cores and new stainless steel downpipes, made by BTB Exhausts, with 200cpsi metallic core catalytic converters were fitted in 2022 by Agamemnon, along with full suspension alignment and new tyres.
There are some cosmetic details that should be mentioned, which are visible in the photos, including opacity of the LCD display on the original Grundig stereo head unit and pealing of the interior clock face. There is also surface crazing of the lower side body kit behind the Left-Hand Front wheel and some pealing of the rubber side strips.
The car presents and drives well and offers a great opportunity to own a genuine and very usable car that will continue to appreciate in value.
With less than 200 left in the UK, the legendary Lotus Carlton is thoroughly deserving of its status as a bona fide modern classic. Combining extraordinary performance with elegant styling and practical comfort, driving one of these 1990's icons today is still a real pleasure.
